Think you need to read my comment again if your comment (which i totally agree with by the way) is aimed at me.
As it's half term for many now and the young animals are not yet on show i am saying the Zoo is not just using the school break as a cash cow for the sake of it.

As was suggested,

But like you say, if it's not detrimental to the animals welfare, then thats the businss were in and theres nothing like young to swell the enthusiasm as well as much need cash.........

just no need for the cynical sarcasm really, is there ??
as you say in many cases its normal practices.......
 
Well, keeping out of the argument, how long will a person who wants to visit out of school holidays and see a cute tiny rhino (they grow so fast) and a little okapi, need to wait I wonder!
 
No it wasn't particularly aimed Swampy Sorry if it came across that way - I read a comment here that said that they were now all on show basically as the schools are now on half term in the area - but now I'm not sure if I read correctly that people who have been in say they ARE currently all on show or that they ARE NOT?
So, what I Know:
The Baby Giraffe, Baby Orang, Baby Capybara & Baby Dwarf Mongoose are all on show
I don't know if the Baby Rhino & Baby Okapi are on show yet - anyone seen them!

As of Monday, all the Capybara were off show, but that may have changed.

Rhino and Okapi are off-show - I think the facebook page will make it quite clear when they and the otters are on-show.
 
Azara's Agouti are now back on-show,but if you want to view them you will have to go into the Jaguar Coffee House,and view them through the windows in there,the enclosure is very new looking at the moment,but once the plants have grown a bit I'm sure it will look very good.
 
The two aviaries in the Tropical Realm by the wood duck have been knocked into one and the breeding pair of Tarictic Hornbills now have more space, the Mindanao Writhed hornbill which was formerly housed next to the Tarictics has been transferred to the aviary opposite the Rhinoceros hornbills, previously used to house sa mixed collection of 2012 zoo-bred birds.

The path between the roan/lesser kudu and the old gemsbok paddock is closed, at the south end by a row of portakabin toilets, at the north end by the more conventional signs announcing zoo improvements.

There is now 1.1 tree shrews in the elephant house, the Derbyan parakeet aviary is empty and is being refurbished.
 
Is there any chance for some fresh Mindanaos from the Philippines to re-instate / widen the fledging / promising breeding programme in Europe?

Really seen loads of them in rescue centers back in the Philipps.
 
Another piece of news from Saturday. The pathway alongside the radiated tortoises is open again, having being partially blocked for the last few months.
 
The names for the warty pigs are my favourites as they have a glam rock theme are not at all related to the language of the country from which they originate. Then there's the Pudú who lives with the giant anteaters, who if I recall correctly, is called "Bert".
 
The Okapi calf now has access to the on-show part of the house. Though the ouse is closed most of the time, at certain times the keepers are briefly letting in small groups.

The calf looks very good, and has been named "Dafari" (or something like that).

What are the warty pigs names? I'm intrigued as I'm quite partial to a bit of glam rock... :p
