Life of Pi

Did I miss another spoiler opportunity? Dammit.

Oh and when you read the book, you will see that they refer to U-boats. Please note that that is the name they used for German subs in WWII, and the u refers to underwater. It's quite easy to get confused.

Also, in the book, the animal I the boat was actually a gennet, but I am not sure why they used an aardwolf in the movie. (It's not a spotted hyaena.)

actually the u stands for Über, as in Über Boot, roughly meaning the best sort of boat. At the time the British and Portuguese only had wooden sailing ships that floated on top of the ocean and were renowned for getting woodworm infestations and sinking if they were overloaded with more than three cannons, but the Germans invented the fancy underwater vessels which were much better at everything.

My Dr. Marten's are Uber boots. They've lasted me nearly 14 years.

Germans invent better everything. Yahhh!

Thylacine, I apologise for spoiling the movie/book. But it's like watching a movie prequel: you know how the movie will end, but you watch anyway to be a part of the journey.

I guess. I know that Nazi subs. were called U-Boats, they teach it in 8th grade U.S. History. This morning, before I went to school, I was watching trailers and other stuff for the movie. I'm hooked!! The one thing I didn't understand from the trailer was why they had a giant swarm of Meerkats in what looks like a forest, it was my understanding that they lived in the desert. Don't tell me why they're there, though.

BZF- I figured he made up the Nazi thing but I'm getting mixed signals here from different posts so I'm not going to assume anything.

Why would you assume that I made stuff up? I'll not spoil the meerkat thing, other than to say that they are actually coatis (which do indeed live in the jungle).

What brand do you guys use? It's 'shoe-down'! Aww snap, you been shoed! Woooooo. *an expectant hush falls over the forum*

Like I said, my Doc Marten's. Been holding up to constant use since '99 or '98. Most expensive shoes I've had, but they've also been the best.

This is a very strange but entertaining thread. I loved both the book and the movie.

Hmm. They look like Meerkats to me. I guess I'll just have to see the movie to find out. This U-Boat thing has me very confused so everyone just shut up about it:D

they are meerkats. Pay no attention to Mr Nanoboy and his ten-gallon-hat of bring-down-blues. But remember, when you assume you make an ass out of you and me!

Whenever I write the word 'assume' here I always think of that and how it'll one day come back to bite me for posting that.:D I didn't believe nanoboy anyway. I've seen plenty a Meerkat and coati and I know the difference.

In the book they were coatis. I am not sure about the movie. Remember, I only saw the musical, and they were definitely coatis.

In the book they were meerkats. I can't check right now because I've borrowed my copy out to a friend but it's the illustrated edition and I can definitely remember the picture. I wonder why they would put coatis in the play?
