Favorite Music :)

Michael's music consisted of R&B, pop, rock, soul, dance, funk, disco, and new jack swing. I would say when people say the "King of Music", they mean the way he danced, theatricality, amazing voice, and lastly how many records he has sold.

To a musicologist, those are all minor branches of one limited genera of music (American popular).

Well in that case shouldn't he be the King of Dance, not the King of Music????

Noooo, have you heard his music? If you don't like it, then something is wrong with your ears.
I have heard it,and personnaly think its crap, but if you like it and think its good then thats up to you,if we all liked the same stuff it would be a very boring world!!

Hmm... I would snap back but it's good to see you didn't first.

My ears are perfectly fine, thank you. I just don't like pop music as a whole. That includes pop, rock, rap, R&B, soul, funk, country, etc. Popularity is not a definitive sign of musicianship.

I can't stand pop these days, and I can't get into country, but Michael switched it up. He used more of an up-beat tempo and unusual rhythms when all we get today is the same tune on every song. And just another random fact, Guinness World Records recognizes Michael as the most successful entertainer of all time.

Financially successful. Note they also use the term entertainer and not musician.

Obviously not, but I would think stupid teenage girls would disagree with you [Justin Bieber:mad:] Sorry but there is no opinion when it comes to this kind of topic.

Correct. Those are all financial figures.

No those are awards, recognitions, and record breaking accomplishments. Why even argument about this? If you ask anyone out on the street they would say MJ without hesitation.

How are those figures anything but financial?

13 number one albums - means they sold the most. - Financial
750 million records sold - Financial
13 Grammys. - Here is the only possible case of anything but financial. But, as the Grammys are a popularity contest for the biggest music labels out there, it once again boils down to financial success far more than artistic success.

If you want to talk influential musician, then I have two names for you. I am going to limit the discussion to only popular musicians and not those in the field of classical/art music. The first name is Robert Johnson, a blues musician, without whom pop music as we know it would never have developed. The second name is Les Paul who invented the electric guitar and modern multi-track recording techniques.

Which have all come as a result of record sales, which if he didn't have any of he wouldn't have got the awards,so I agree with jbnbsn99 they are all financial figures,as a result of people buying the music in the first place!!

If you disagree then tell me what you think qualifies as "the King of Music"?. I'd like to point out that I believe Cinzoo man is saying that Michael is the king of the industry of music. Either way I would agree to both.

Obviously you aren't thinking straight, it's called stats, moves, heart, and soul.So now you want to talk about influential [powerful] songs, okay? Every artist that has lived after a certain point would say they were influenced by his work. Listen to Man in the Mirror, Human Nature, Black or White, You Are Not Alone, Human Nature, Heal the World, The Lost Children, The Way You Make Me Feel, and of course Thriller. If you want to talk about influential as a person, then there wouldn't enough room for a list on here.

Thank you!!! Yes there is no doubt he ruled over top of everyone else's careers.
