Three zoos before the end of the world

The Mayan prediction is true. The world is ending in a few days and it's just you and I that know it is true.

Time to visit the zoos on your bucket list, and max out the credit card.

Which 3 (or more) zoos are you going to visit?

I will be visiting San Diego, Singapore, and Berlin. You?

Askania-Nova, Berlin, Bronx

:p

Hix

Minnesota Zoo, whatever zoo in Australia has the numbat exhibit (Perth?), Zealandia to see semi-wild tuataras and other free-ranging New Zealand species

The Mayan prediction couldn't be true. The world's never gonna end in a few days. It's just like the Y2K bug that occured in the end of 1999.

The world is definitely not going to end in a few days...

Back to the subject, I'd go for Berlin Zoo, Prague and Plzen. (I may even sneak a trip to the Tierpark whilst in Germany! :p)

Hmm... Cincinnati, Berlin, and I guess Perth. Since we can do more I'd also want to see the other Berlin, Lisbon, the other Lisbon, Singapore, San Diego, the other San Diego, Columbus, Atlanta, Toronto, Melbourne, the other Melbourne, Sydney, Beijing, London, Pheonix, Los Angeles, Whipsnade, Durrell, Barcelona, Bronx, Prague, Minnesota, Georgia, Leipzig, and I could go on and on but I think you guys get my point.

Oh yeah and Buffalo:D

This is a tough'un. Probably Woodland Park Zoo, Prague Zoo, and Bronx Zoo.

...Auckland Zoo would be a close fourth.

Why those 3? David set the bar.

Minnesota Zoo because I've wanted to see it since 1981 when I read a Smithsonian Magazine article about it. It is said to have the best brown bear and sea otter exhibits on the planet and is one of the only places in the U.S. to see dholes.

I want to see a numbat.

I want to see tuataras and as many wild endemic New Zealand species as I can in as natural a habitat as I can, and Zealandia seems like that is the reason it exists.

I want to visit San Diego zoo because I grew up watching a TV show with Joan Embery. So, like Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo, it would be a sort of pilgrimage for me.

I visited Singapore Zoo/Jurong once already and I didn't have enough time to do the place justice.

Berlin Zoo just seems to have a host of animals that I will never be able to see in Australia.

These are the three zoos that I would visit before the world ends.

Toronto Zoo: not the best zoo in the world, but it's my home zoo and I would be sad if I didn't get to say goodbye to the animals before the world ends.

Berlin Tierpark: I've always been interested in this zoo's collection, especially the carnivores and hoofed animals.

Taronga Zoo: there are so many awesome species that I'd love to see here like leopard seals, platypuses, and tasmanian devils.

If I believed it (which I don't) I'd hire a luxury coach today with a driver and stock it with some food and plenty of good drink. I'd be driven to Edinburgh overnight for a visit on Tuesday, then a drive to Chester for a visit on Wednesday and then to Canterbury for Howletts on Thursday. ZooChat members would be welcome to join the party at any stage and I reckon that as midnight approached we wouldn't really care too much ;)
And I wouldn't bother to take my canera :D

Bring along your camera and I will be on that bus with you. :D I will be chartering a private jet for my trip, so there are quite a few seats available to Zoochatters.

No one wants to visit any South American or African collections? My jet has enough fuel and range....

H'mm. San Diego and Berlin (both of them) are wonderful BUT if I was allowed only three zoss again they would have to be places that I hadn't visited. So:-

  • Singapore, and hopefully I'd be able to sneak in the Night Zoo
  • Perth, which does look these days as if it MAY be a more interesting collection of Australian mammals than Taronga
  • Cincinnati, for one last chance to view Sumatran Rhino, and to consult Martha and Incas as to what extinction felt like.
