Christmas? Bah humbug!

that is cool. Back in my day that function was called a secretary.

I love Christmas -- at the very worst it saves having to buy your own socks.
All the eating, goodwill & family interaction is a great byproduct of Christianity for a nonbeliever like me. Yum; pass the mince pies.

as above and a glass of sherry, a glass of brandy a flagon of ale and a good cigar :D

It just shows when we sent all those boat loads of convicts to that island over 200 years ago, we really did filter out some of the most miserable sods....

25% of Australians were not born in Australia, and 20% of Australians are second generation Aussies. ;) The chances of any Aussie being related to a convict is quite slim. And the chances of them actually admitting their convict blood is even slimmer. :D

The two Christmas parties weren't bad.

The first party had a super cool trivia quiz, but I ended up with all the duds:

Quiz Master: The next round is all about sports!

Me to the German on my team: Well, if they ask how many times Germany won the World Cup, you will ace it.

Jerry: Oh yes. They won it 6 times.

Me: Dude, are you serious? They only won 2 or 3 times.

Jerry: No, I am pretty sure it was 6. Let me check.
(He pulls out his iPhone..)

Jerry: You are right: it was only 3.
(He indicates 3 with his thumb, index finger, and middle finger a la 'Inglourious Basterds'.)

We placed 5th out of 8 teams.

The second party was less formal, but just as much fun. I took my wife to that one, and I think she enjoyed it too. But, she enjoys Christmas and really does take it to the next level, much to my chagrin.

Christmas TV

I actually don't mind every TV show having a Christmas-themed episode. Believe it or not, I enjoy the predictable 'A Christmas Carol' adaptations.

What irks me is that just when I have lots of spare time over the holidays, my favourite TV shows go on a 3 week hiatus, only to be replaced by reruns of the worst series imaginable that no one watched the first time around!

In the run-up to Christmas, the airwaves are saturated with Christmas-themed adverts. Watching 'The Big Bang Theory' feels like 22 minutes of commercials with 8 minutes of Sheldon thrown in. After all, who doesn't like to be told about all the crap that we need to buy but don't actually need?

Don't despair though, because come December 25th the commercials get replaced by adverts for all the brand new TV shows that you can expect to watch in 2013 - like 'Last Resort' and '666 Park Avenue', which have both been cancelled in America.

You appear to be cheering up nicely now.:). you are probably a bit like me when it comes to Christmas parties - in that they are always better than you imagine them to be!

A quiz is always good fun at Christmas time.

There are many great versions of A Christmas Carol, my two favourites being Patrick Stewart as Scrooge and A Muppets Christmas Carol.

My wife baked and decorated these cookies today. I hate Christmas, but they do look good don't they? :)

1) - For someone not enjoying Christmas, he has been to two parties, his wife has been baking Christmas treats, he is looking forwards to Christmas TV.
2) - He will be a convict decendent most likely, not that I give a monkeys uncle where anyone decends from, (as long as 'we' beat 'them' at cricket regularly I am happy and at peace with everyone Australian :p)
3) - He was the only one in the janitors cupboard this year!!

I think we will let you win the cricket. You guys kill yourselves after a joke, so you might probably nuke us if we beat you in the series.

I much prefer the term "maintenance engineer", thank you very much.

I don't even know my job title. It is "sanitation engineer". :D

Anyway, what are your Christmas plans folks? I did errands yesterday (saw a wild male gang gang cockatoo as a bonus), did chores around the house today, plan to relax at home tomorrow, and cook a Christmas meal on Tuesday after visiting the neighbours. You lot?

For someone who doesn't like Christmas you sure enjoy Christmas;)

The two big things I asked for this year were a visit to Bronx (or another WCS facility) and a visit to Cincinnati. The rest was just simple stuff like seeing Life of Pi. As for what I'm doing, I spent today decorating, buying a tree, and starting a list of endangered mammals which I may post on ZooChat sometime in the future (the felines alone are 2 and .5 pages!:(). I'm going Christmas shopping tomorrow and on Christmas eve my Mom has us go charoling in the neighborhood with some other neighors after a small party at one person's house. After caroling we all go to an intersection and "Santa" arrives in his magical pick-up truck with his "elves" (my brother was one last year) and gives everyone presents. After we go to another neighbors house and have a party until about 1 in the morning and go home and sleep until my siblings wake me up at 5am and we go open presents.
