The whole chimp thing is confusing. Apparantely, a chimp was born at the zoo about seven months ago, called Ruben. His mother Rukiya died less than 24 hours after his birth. He wasn't accepted by his father or his surrogate mother, so he's at OKC Zoo now. That means the chimps are a breeding group. So if Rukiya's dead, and Ruben is gone, that means there is the new male and I think two females; I think one's name was Twiggy?
 
I was looking at the zoo's species lists, and they seemed to have welcomed a large amount of cockatoo species recently; Gang Gang Cockatoos, Red-Tailed Black Cockatoos, Rose-Breasted Cockatoos, Sulphur-Crested Cockatoos, and White-Tailed Black Cockatoos. This makes their total cockatoo species list 6 species (including Palm Cockatoos, which were already at zoo). They're all on exhibit at Wallaroo Station.
Atlantic and Yellow Stingrays have been added to the ray exhibit in Florida Wildlife Center.
 
The AZA has awarded Lowry Park Zoo with a North American Conservation Award in recognition of Lowry Park's amazing records with manatees and the world's only non-profit manatee hospital. Congragulations!
 
On May 9, the oldest male Bornean Orangutan in the country, Rango, died at the age of 37 due to natural causes. This just came to my attention today, when I read that today would've been his 38th birthday.
Really Lowry Park? You wait practically 7 months to tell the public that one of the most beloved animals in the zoo is dead?
In four days, Wild Wonderland, the Christmas celebration, will start at the zoo. The Reindeer herd are at the zoo, waiting to greet the public.

I agree! I know it may be pricey to do news releases when new animals come to the zoo, etc. But you also have virtual communication like facebook where it is free to announce that information.
