A porpoise has been rescued by Natureland and is due to be there for the next few days - Even though it's likely going to be short-term captive, I believe this is the first captive cetacean in the UK since the last dolphins at Windsor in '93?
Yes, I thought that too. Very interesting!
It says they've rescued dolphins and porpoises before, but usually cetaceans just seem to be re-released quickly without being taken back to sanctuaries for any amount of time so this could be a first.
I spent 3 weeks of my summer doing my dissertation there on the seals in that pool so kinda gutted that I didn't get to see this (though I did get to see the newborn pup)! Should have asked whether they'd kept any cetaceans there before!
Hi Javan rhino,
Do you have any links to articles on this? I had a look but couldn't find any.
Would it be on public display or behind the scenes?
If it is on public display I have a feeling I may be making a journey to Skegness!
The porpoise has been released today, with the help of the Skegness Inshore Lifeboat team.

The porpoise only spent one night with the seals, (which would have been a 3 species exhibit for a night as, Eve, the hooded seal is still there!) and was taken out to sea with the boat today to hopefully rejoin its pod.
Javan Rhino will be gutted![]()
