When a tuna sandwich requires a mortgage.

The hunting of the endangered bluefin tunas (no matter which species) should be illegal! I don't support large-scale fishing and only catch and release of smaller species (like Bluegills).

Oh and David, your thread's title is misleading because they will be selling sushi from the fish at the regular price: the ridiculous cost of the fish was just for publicity. ;)

If this was a tiger (sold for exotic meat), there would be international outrage. Why no outrage over endangered bluefins being continually slaughtered?

(For the record I do it fish fairly often, so I am not anti-fishermen. But we really need to crack down on unsustainable fisheries. I am thankful for sustainable seafood guides and now symbols on packages. I was pleased to see a new sign at my local Safeway supermarket showing Safeway getting top rankings from Greenpeace - at least I think it was them - for highest percentage of sustainable seafood of all major US supermarkets).

Sorry, moderators decided all posts on that subject needed deletion.

Can't moderators edit posts? Why not just delete the bad stuff and leave the ok parts. Some really good and relavant things were said amongst the garbage.

Anything that was removed, was not relevant to the record price paid for a tuna!

I was enjoying the discussion and I think we were all learning something. Now I know what not to refer to Japanese people as, and you folks know what not to call Afro-Caribbean people. :) Let's not mix up 'discussing race' with 'being racist'. Having said that, I'll abide by your decision and not restart the discussion, despite not agreeing with your decision to delete the posts. No dramas.

Feel free to open a thread on the subject in the cafe.

Some were about what certain countries need to do to end the destruction of wildlife and the environment which I think fit right in on this thread!

I have thought the same thing for many years since the Monterey Aquarium's tuna exhibit opened my eyes that tuna are wild animals like giraffes, elephants, or tigers, not domesticated food animals like cows or chickens. I think hardly anybody knows what spectacular animals tuna are or thinks of them as anything more than fish in a can or sushi.

Hmmm.... I wouldn't know what to call it. I'll let one of the other guys have a go at starting one. I forgot what I typed in my previous posts!

Your email might have it if you're Gmail. I don't want it in The Nonsense Thread by the way. I've already had a heated discusion on politics deleted on that thread and I don't want another- especially about this topic! Now let's get back to Bluefin Tuna, retail price, and animal conservation!

I left all the threads that had no off topic/racist undertones. Any more off topic posts from this post on will be deleted.

At least at some point you could buy Lion Tacos in the US. The video is on ZooChat somewhere.
