San Diego Zoo Remaining Hoof-Stock Species

The Bronx is in an economic slump. They have good reason to charge you for Congo Gorilla Forest, as all proceeds go to conservation in the real Congo. However, as discussed in other threads, the Bronx is probably adding to the admission price instead of charging people to see JungleWorld, Wild Asia Monorail, and the Children's Zoo. For SDZAP's caravan experiences where you feed animals, I can understand them pricing that. But if they're charging you to go on a tram ride where you just see wildlife, I believe that's wrong.
Well, if you buy one safari you get the African Tram Safai for free! Actually I don't mine zoo exhibits and safaris not being free because then the ignorant people and people with small children that scream don't usually buy them.

For anyone who was wondering it looks like a lot of the Zoo/WAP's Caprid's ended up at this place: Safarious - IRON MOUNTAIN RANCH - West Texas / Clay Knight / Old Gallery

It's nice to see some familiar faces haha, and the pictures were taken in 2012! The 2nd picture from the left in the second row appears to be Nilgiri Tahr, can anyone verify this?

Also the 6th row down, 1st on the left is a pretty great shot of what looks like Blue Sheep next to West Caucasian Tur, two species that might not be in any other US Zoos.

Does anyone have any connection to the Iron Mountain ranch, would love a chance to see the Nilgiris!!

That looks like a pretty interesting place. I really think we need more places like that and more that are accredited by the AZA. Zoos don't always have room for ungulates so these could be places they could go for more room and still allow for these animals to be in US zoos.

I like the bit where it says "Today the ranch serves as a home to exotic animals that have been irresponsibly brought into the states and improperly cared for."

I "discovered" the Goat Canyon at the San Diego Zoo several years ago. At the time they had on display roe deer, Bactrian red deer, and several other red deer subspecies. I wish I would have written them all down. They also had the white-lipped deer and tahrs. I felt bad because they were no longer displaying the addax anywhere. I used to enjoy the monorail ride at the Wild Animal Park, seeing all the species they had there. Now that the Zoo has removed the Hoof and Horn Mesa and no longer provides any way to see the majority of their collection of hoofed mammals at the Safari Park, I have been so upset so as not to have returned to the zoo or the park. I don't know what they are trying to pull at either place. Does anyone else know?

I think if anywhere was successfully keeping saola it would be the most famous collection in the world for zoonerds!

Nobody has the saola. I know. My post got stirred in here on this thread for some reason. I was responding to somebody else. How about getting Javan rhinos, koupreys and thylacines, for a cool addition to any zoo. The last 2 may very well be extinct. Might as well request the Irish elk, wooly mammoth, and wooly rhino.
