Does anybody know if the Philippine crocs are on display yet? I'm delaying a visit until I know they are.

The Phillipine Crocs are both on display at chester now - being mobbed by the free-flying birds!
How can they be getting mobbed by the free flying birds when the enclosure has been netted over to keep all but the smallest birds out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What bird species are hovering over their exhibit?
Any other wildlife too (turtles or lizards)?

any of the free-flying birds could 'mob' the crocs but apparently cannot get to them.

The holes in the mesh are about 4cm so quite a few of the free-flying species can enter the crocodile area. Yesterday there was a single small bird in there

Thanks for the info. Can't wait to see them!:D Also, I understand Thrigby Hall has Muggers and Salties. Do they have any other crocodilians?

They also have a large group of American Alliagators i think its about 6 or 7 in total. The bull came from Flamingoland in North Yorkshire.

The netting is big enough for many smaller bird species to enter enclosure, keeper explained they were mobbing the crocs whilst film crew recorded it. was starlings doing the mobbing when i was there.

Well the soon one of the Crocs takes the stupid birds out of the gene pool the zoo will be left with birds clever enough to stay out of the Crocs.

Thanks for the info on Thrigby Zoogiraffe. Can't wait to visit Thrigby, as well as Paignton AND chester AND just found out that 2 young Cuban crocs have arrived at Colchester from Sweden! I'm a big fan of crocs, and it's fantastic that all these collections are making the effort to show and breed these rare croc species. When are Gharials going to come to the UK again?....

Was at the zoo yesterday, and one of the crocs stopped near the window (reasonable photo op), and then swam past the window, disappearing into the reflections at the back. Couldn't see the other one. Are they a breeding pair?

Theya re a true pair. Bwassa you're lucky, all I saw was two crocs right at the back of the exhibit, no chance for a photo. I had a better view from upstairs.

We (my wife and I) were in the tropical house for a good hour-and-a-half. We always go there and have butties whilst admiring the bird life around us. So, we saw the croc on the third attempt to view them. Patience truly is a virtue! I'd say the one we saw was about 3ft long. If I can get the hang of putting photos in the gallery, I'll share one with you all.:)

Yeah the pool was renovated so it is much deeper, the wall was raised and a mesh roof was added.

Just searching the back of my memory, but am I right in saying that enclosure isn't very big. Are there plans for a new enclosure in the future, or are the crocs still quite small at this stage?
