That's not happening until Chester confirm it.

Can you see a travel crate with 4 Orangs sat at the entrance and a guy with a clipboard saying "no I'm sorry Chester havn't confirmed this you'll have to take them back" !!
:)

The Blackpool Zoo Facebook page say their Orangs are moving to Chester Zoo on Wedneday 6th February and not coming back until the summer and while they are at Chester they will be off show.

why would Chester confirm this? They have no need to if the Orangs are off show, I am surprised Blackpool have said where they are going.....

The only place they can be held is in the old ape house and hopefully they'll be given access onto the island, in which case they're not exactly going to be a secret!

Does that Island still have a deep watermoat? These Orangs have only had a dry moat in recent years- there could be dangers with water for them.

If they didn't they would get even more enquiries about the Orangutans' whereabouts.

I can imagine all hell breaking loose and internet conspiracy theories about what had happened to them if they disappeared unannounced!

Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but what is happening to the old bongo paddock, as well as the adjacent crane enclosure which is now empty?

News confirmed on the Chester FB page and website - the birth of two babirusa piglets on 16/12/12 :) They will remain offshow until they are a little older. I like this species, so news of more is always good to hear.

Another cause to celebrate. And sadly a rare occasion in EU now, whereas not before when interest in the species was more focussed. Still good news.

I'm sure the moat is still there, although it is not visible now. I agree that there is a danger particularly as the Blackpool moat actually held shallow water, so the orangs might not realise that the one at Chester is deep.

Same applies for the large indoor areas too if the moats are still at the back. I have a feeling that is where 'Martha's original partner 'Kimbu' drowned all those years ago.

The water moats are still at the back of the enclosures inside the old ape house - or at least they were when I was last in there a year or so ago - but they're shallow and could be drained or hot-wired.

Outside the water moat is still around the island, but it's not actually that deep (a number of orangs in its history used to walk across it) and it could be hot-wired. It would be unfortunate if the Blackpool orangs were confined to indoors during their stay, it's not the most modern of accommodation.

I guess if they are given outside access they'd be watched initially to see how they behave near the water. As GL stated, they have had a (shallow) water moat at Blackpool in the past though it became dry after they had an accident with a young male.

The old female 'Victoria' is known for moving her daughters 'Cherie' and 'Summer' away from the water if they go near it after what happened with 'Beau'.

The two male cheetah cubs have gone to Berlin zoo
I did see the Bongos they are behind a screen I guess to get them used to their new enclosure , they are nervous animals :)
Has anyone seen the Philippine spotted deer lately I haven't seen them for 3 weeks
May just be that they were inside when I was at the enclosure but do normally see them out

Didn't notice the phillipine spotted deer yesterday sorry :(

Shall have to make a trip to berlin to see the cheetahs (although somewhat surprised they have been sent to here?!) but not until the new bird house is open :)

Also, we noticed there are now black and white laughing thrushes in the back enclosure to the left of monserat oriole enclosure in islands in danger.

was nice to see the young okapi outside with mum but does any one know why they have been separated from dad??
