Lolong Dies

Hmmm... I could have sworn that I posted on this thread. I don't remember what I said though...

Everytime I saw Lolong on a show, from his capture, to him being measured by Adam Britton, I felt sad for him. The way he was captured and transported, could've caused physical harm, not to mention the psychological factors that lead to his demise. He was transported like cut timber. Not enough support for his massive body. The build up of lactic acid during that ordeal, was tremendous. He thrashed about, only to give up. When he was placed in that pit with a pool, I never saw the water at a depth to take the pressure off his massive body, which causes too much pressure on his organs. He was doomed from capture. Reptiles seem fine and don't show signs of anything until it is too late. I don't know if anyone has captured/held reptiles, but if they thrash about, and stop, their body is shutting down. They aren't acting 'tame', they give up. Shutting off all blood to their extremities. If anyone has seen reptiles missing toes, tail tips, etc, this is usually the case or from stress of their environment lacking what they need to support their daily life functions. It is sad. Given the size that Lolong was, it could have taken this long for him to shut down, and die. He couldn't even fully submerge!! Wild-Caught Big Crocs don't do well in shallow water, ones born in captivity, fare better. It is a shame this magnificent, misunderstood creature, was the scapegoat for being a 'man-killer'. Really nice of those a**holes to assume he was responsible for those deaths. He got no justice, just a death sentence, as they profited off of him, claiming it was 'Eco-Tourism'. A**holes.

@Gulo gulo- I thought they proved that Lolong never actually ate anyone, that's why I called him a gentle giant.

How could they prove that. A big predator eats big prey and Saltwater Crocodiles will eat anything they can catch. Crocodiles all look gentle until they launch from the water to grab you.

They pumped his stomach. They know he at least didn't eat those two guys that went missing when they found him.

they did pump his stomach, but that was nearly two years after the girls head was found. if he did eat people, good for him. you're naive if you really stand by your 'gentle giant' labeling of Lolong. he was an apex predator and could take down any human or prey if he wanted to. he was a scapegoat, and then turned into a living trophy for all to see and profit off of.

The guy who owns Crocodile Cove in Darwin let me hold a crocodile that was gentle, but it was no giant at 40cm. :D The crocs mouth was taped shut for my safety though.

Don't forget folks, that a croc doesn't swallow his prey whole like a snake. Theoretically a croc can kill any size animal that it can drown. A 50kg human to a 1 ton croc, is like me wrestling with a 3kg puppy. Those humans lolong ate would have been snacksand easy picking.

All very valid points - a combination of which could certainly lead to his premature death.

Also, factor in the heat of a Phillipine summer. A big croc in a shallow pool could "cook". This actually happened to a croc at the council owned zoo in Bundaberg a couple of years back. Once their body temperature exceeds 42C they are dead.

They never proved he ate anyone! He almost definetly did and good for him the way we treated him. What would you prefer, though, him being remembered as a gentle giant never proven guilty of anything or a savage man-eater (I still wouldn't of thought that of him if they pumped his stomach and found the remains of 10 people but others surely would).
