Favorite Music :)

Every artist that has lived after a certain point would say they were influenced by his work.

That is pure garbage. I'm sure that Aretha Franklin, Little Richard, Linda Eder, Bernadette Peters, Lea Salonga, B. B. King, Kenny G, Yanni, and countless others were never influenced by Michael Jackson.

I think what he was saying was that "every artist" who started making music after Michael Jackson was influenced by him, rather than that everybody was (i.e. people like B.B. King would fall outside the time frame*). So, for example, bands like Megadeath and Metallica were quite obviously Michael Jackson wannabes. In fact I'd go as far as to say that any modern musician who claims not to want to be Michael Jackson is a dirty liar and should be burned at the stake. Especially those guys from Tool.

*Unless of course Michael Jackson's god-like powers meant he could project himself back in time to influence people from since the dawn of time. It's possible. He is Michael Jackson after all.

That's not music. It's noise. Big difference.
that's pretty harsh. Music is simply noise which appeals to any particular person. Like that stage show where they bang dustbin lids together.

However, I shall substitute Metallica for that other well-known Michael Jackson copycat, Billy Ray Cyrus. You can't tell me Achy Breaky Heart isn't music! :D

Can't argue with you there. One of my favorites is "Like a Boss", and you can find it on their YouTube page. I'm not going to post it here because, let's just say the language might not be "appropiate" for this forum.:D

Another personal favourite is 'On A Boat' but I did play it to death! Also not quite suitable for the forum but absolutely hilarious. ;)
Some of their songs are hilarious but some just don't work. Andy Samberg is fantastic though, great at acting as well, well doing comedyroles anyway. :D

Who needs Michael Jackson with talent like this...? :p

So my musical guilty pleasure has always been Beyonce and last week I went to see her perform here in Melbourne. Needless to say she was incredible. Possibly the second best live show I've seen behind Radiohead.

Does anyone else have a favourite live performance they've seen? Robyn, Daughter, Sia, and James Blake are a few more of my favourites.

I think Beyonce is everyone's guilty pleasure.

The most notable live performances I've seen were three Dave Matthews concerts. They can be fun but sadly he seems to not want to play the classics anymore. It doesn't help either that he despises Cincinnati.

The other two concerts were two Goo Goo Dolls (stupid name) performances. At the first concert I got to meet the band before they went on. Surprisingly though their second concert was filled with more energy and excitement. It probably helped that it was indoors and that we had 4th row.

I have to say that I am ecstatic that my favorite artist, Sara Bareilles, is nominated for album of the year at the grammys. If the only song you have heard from The Blessed Unrest album is Brave then you are missing out. Here is another taste from her new album.

And for those Beyonce fans ;)

Listen to any new music lately? Favorite artist drop a new album recently? Is there any opinion regarding music that you want to share?

Ill get things started with two reviews of recent albums from two completely different artists but still some of my favorites, Daughtry and Eminem.

Cage to Rattle: Daughtry
It's been five years since their last album "Baptized", and man do many people even remember this band exists anymore? Responsible for several hits of the mid 2000's such as "Home", It's Not Over" and "September", it really seems like this band has fallen out of grace since the American Idol days. Baptized took the band into that mainstream pop category that many others fall into after a certain period of time, and while Cage to Rattle is a step in the right direction, It still fails to recapture the appeal of the first three much more rock educed records.

Its start off decently well with "Just Found Heaven" a ballad that sounds like a Christian rock song with a slight edge to the overall mood. It's overall one of the better tracks on this record. The main singles "Backbone" and "Deep End" also fail to capture any real rock presence within the songs, backbone especially sounding more like an imagine dragons song than anything. The rest of the album includes songs that range from repetitive ("Back in Time", "Gravity") to downright forgettable ("Death of Me", "Bad Habits") but its not all bad. "As You Are", a song cowritten by lead singer Chris Daughtry's wife, is an absolutely lovely track with a beautiful message beside it. Then there are the final two tracks. First off, "Stuff of Legends", a catchy song with a hint of some rock and roll presence. However, the real gem of this record is with out a shadow of a doubt, "White Flag". This is the grand finale to "Cage to Rattle" and is a delight. A motivational song about never raising that metaphorical white flag. The only track on this album that really has some rock influence and it is wonderful. And im not the only one to think so, as dozens of fans and even Chris himself have expressed that this is their favorite track, and I really wish the rest of "Cage to Rattle" could have been like this.

Overall, "Cage to Rattle" is merely an ok record with some bright spots. Not bad, yet not that great either. It really seems strange, as its been five years since the last album yet this also Daughtry's shortest one with only 10 tracks. I really wish this band would return to their roots in their inevitable sixth record, as this album as a whole sounded very samey and forgettable in places. It would be great if we could get some more rock influence and less of these pseudo pop sounding songs. "White Flag", "Stuff of Legends" and "As You Are" were all highlights

Score: 7.5/10
Cage To Rattle

Kamikaze: Eminem
After "Revival" released late last year, plenty of people were starting to count Shady out. It was his least successful album of all time and was easily the most divisive among fans. So when "Kamikaze" was released out of nowhere at the end of August, it caught a lot of fans off guard. I'm certainly not into much modern rap music but Eminem's fast pace flow and wordplay has always made him an expectation for myself. So after the subpar "Revival" was "Kamikaze" really any good?

Yes. This is some of Marshalls best work in years. The premise of "Kamikaze" is simple; Go after everyone who counted him out and take lyrical shots at major figures in the industry. Drake, Machine Gun Kelly, Lil Pump, Lil Yachty, Joe Budden, Tyler the Creator and Lil Xan. Of course, just like most Celebes these days had to take a jab at President Trump and Vice President Pence. And the tracks on this record are a joy. "The Ringer" and "Fall" are the tracks were the majority of the crafty wordplay and disses are taking place with lines like, "I have no faith in your writers I don't believe in ghosts (Referencing many rappers using ghost writers)," and "Like that feature where I stole the show, sorry if I took forever (Forever being the name of a track he did along side Drake, Kanye West and Lil Wayne)."

Other tracks include collaborations with rappers such as Royce Da 5'9 on "Not Alike" and my personal favorite, a collaboration with Joyner Lucas on "Lucky You" a track with insanely fast paced rapping from both artists compares the famous well known career of Eminem with the rather unknown Lucas who is only now emerging onto the scene. The rest of the album is solid but unspectacular in places. "Greatest" and "Kamikaze" (The track) both have rather annoying hooks that could have been exuded far better. "Venom" - A song made for the recently released Marvel movie - and "Stepping Stone" - a track that touches on Marshalls relationship with his former rap group D12 - also shares this issue. However, there are only two tacks on here that are really truly awful. "Normal" is a mess, it attempts to convey a troubled relationship but with an obnoxious beat and a soulless hook that absolutely kills the track. Then there's "Nice Guy" which is perhaps one of the worst songs every released by Eminem. There is way too much going on here with Jessie Reyez doing a hook that does not mesh with the rest of the track in the slightest and another emotionless performance by Eminem that is baffling on how it was even allowed on this album.

All in all, despite this being Eminem's shortest album to date, "Kamikaze" is quite good. I recognize that rap may not be many peoples thing, but if it is you will likely love this album. Clever rhymes, crafty wordplay, fast paced flows and a true comeback for Eminem. "The Ringer", "Lucky you", "Stepping Stone", "Fall" and "Venom" are all highlights.

Oh, also...

8/10

I like all kinds of music except the bad nuisance that are the rap/hip-hop, as well as the worst kinds of reggaeton (there are also "softer" reggae that I can support easily). However my most favourite music is instrumental/epic, with special love for soundtracks from Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore and the like, as well as Inmediate Music and so. Also like very much the classical songs from Enya (not the latter ones). Classical music, pop and soft rock are also nice, my favourite group is Fito & Fitipaldis but I also like Maná, Morat and many more

My favourite band ever have just released their best single in about 10 years, with a cracking video as well, featuring the brilliant Terry Crews. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Pressure by Muse:

Well, somebody outta revive this thread. In recent months I've found myself listening to almost exclusively early 2000s rock music. Some of the favorites include

Daughtry
Nickelback (Never understood why they get so much hate)
Blink-182
Sum 41
Green Day
Coldplay
Maroon 5 (Pre-Moves Like Jagger maroon 5)
Avril Lavigne
The Killers
Linkin Park
Three Days Grace
Three Doors Down
The Fray
Paramore
Fall Out Boy
Breaking Benjamin
Lifehouse
Hoobastank
Train

All have produced some phenomenal tracks over the years. There are also a few pop artists that I have grown very fond of. Adam Lambert, Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Imagine Dragons, Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys and Justin Timberlake have some wonderful songs.

You Tube has started suggesting Coldplay videos for me to watch. I wouldn't ever have been able to tell you a song by Coldplay, nor listened to a song and known it was them. But every single song I listen to, it turns out I know. How is this possible?! And it turns out I quite like them.

Also, a shout out for British Sea Power whilst I am here. And Sarah McLachlan. (Yes, I have extremely eclectic listening tastes...)
