The Walking Dead

well my shotguns are all too big to conceal nor do I "carry" them. But when I mean carry usually my pistol stays in the glove box to my truck. And I have a concealed carry permit but Alabama is also an open carry state.

Merle is all those things but like I said everyone is a flawed character, you will see what I mean when you watch the back half of Season 3.

I have no idea what those terms mean.

So you can legally carry your pistol on your person and keep it concealed, say if you are having a drink at a bar?

What does open carry mean?

Can I walk down Main Street with two pistols on my waist and a shotgun slung over my shoulder?

Also, how exactly are you allowed to use your gun for personal protection? Any recent examples spring to mind? My wife and I were having a discussion about if I would go to jail if I stabbed a bandit who was threatening the cashier at the restaurant we were having dinner in.

Alabama is an open carry state. That means that you do not have to have a permit to carry a gun on you most places. The permit itself is for carrying the gun concealed. Of course places like schools, hospitals, banks, and bars are considered places where you normally don't carry as a general rule either open or concealed unless of course you are police. Some business's often state their preference as well, but my own personal rule I don't carry going out unless of course its on my hip because I have been hunting or shooting that day. No need to bring a gun into a restaurant especially if its a situation that could make others uncomfortable. I don't say "I'm going out I need my gun" like its my belt or my shoes.

Now self defense is a tricky subject, I am sure you've heard of the Trayvon Martin case. Most state laws (including Alabama's) state that if you are in a situation that you have to make an attempt to retreat first and once they come after you then can defend yourself. Hence the "stand your ground" laws mean that you do not have the obligation to retreat merely that you feel your life is threatened.

And none of that matters when it comes to someone breaking and entering at your residence or place of business. In the US its commonly referred to as the Castle Doctrine as in "A man's home is his castle". We are friends of our County's sheriff and he often jokes that we just need to wait until the guy gets in the house or if we get trigger happy call him first and he will help us drag the guy in.

In most situations I wouldn't start shooting at someone but merely use my gun to keep them detained until the police show up. Now to your situation, yes if I was in a line at a gas station while carrying and someone came in and tried to rob it, I would use my gun to keep them detained until the cops arrived, I certainly wouldn't start shooting though.

does your wife ever bring up that you obviously have some sort of heroic-fantasy-killer thing going on in your head?

Nano we need to get you over here, I think you would enjoy a week or so hunting and shooting with us. Could work out some of those issues Chil just brought up

But in a state/country like yours where it is easier to buy a gun than Indonesian curries, I suspect that the bandit will also have a gun. Therefore, he will start shooting at you the moment you brandish your weapon, so there goes your theory of keeping him detained! :D

You should post a pic of your gun collection some time.

I think that every boy/man who has grown up on a staple of action movies has similar fantasies, but only tschandler gets to act them out. :D

PS* I hope Merle dies. They are about to storm town.

ok this is where it starts to ramp up, you see a slightly different side of Merle now.

The guy is an idiot. I hope the Chinese boy stabs him in his sleep.

Rick is unfit to lead, but neither are the Chinese kid and Daryl. The young boy can be leader one day, but not for 10 years.

Well, season 3 is over. What a ride! When does the new season begin? I already have withdrawal symptoms.

They have started filming on season 4 and here is one big spoiler - they are filming in the location of Ricks hometown again including Morgan's apartment so they must have signed Lennie James as least to a recurring role if not starring.

Are all these towns really abandoned towns in Alabama, or are they sets?

And why aren't you a zombie extra?

Actually, October is the season premier in North America. I don't know if it starts at the same time in Australia or if there is any difference.

Its in Georgia - Woodbury isn't an abandoned town its a working town called Senoia.

Google Walking Dead Locations - its a site that lists where they film each episode. Most of the filming is in a contained area around the studio which is based in Senoia (Many Southern States especially Louisiana and Georgia have thriving film/tv production)

The Prison was built on the studio backlot from the ground up and the farm is an actual farm outside Senoia.

- i love how the show is filmed around where it is supposed to occur. With any movie or show you cant beat using the actual place(s).

yeah its great having such a popular show in just a short drive away, makes for a good weekend when you don't have anything else to do. Being a teacher and off in the summers you get all your work done during the week and there is only so much golf you can play.
