Just wondering what your feelings were about the knew exhibits at twycross. The Amur leopard enclosure was good but I was a bit concerned as the male was pacing. The new penguin walk through looks good but I didn't see it being used. I was very impressed with the new giant tortoise enclosure. I wasn't that impressed with the owl aviary as there didn't seem to be much space for the owls. I was also disappointed with the walking with lemurs as there didn't appear to be any lemurs in there as I walked through without seeing a single lemur. The bush dog and coati island was very good especially when the cute coatis were swinging on the ropes and bush dogs were running around below. It was good to see that they were promoting the endangered monkeys they had siamang and spider monkeys. Finally I felt the dinosaur valley is a really good idea as I'm sure it will bring more people with younger people to the zoo. Hope you could tell me what you think about the new enclosures

They were make do and mend, not ideal and certainly not gold standard, the Dinosaurs need to refill the bank balance or twycross will go bust next year. Unfortunatlely the current Directors are not commercialy minded and dont understand how to operate a profitable business.

The recent beautiful weather on the May Day Bank Holiday saw record-breaking crowds there- I'm sure a few other places experienced similar, but I'm sure the weather was responsible for that, rather than what is on display. Given good weather, people just want a day out.

Numbers were up across the whole 'outside attractions' industry. Nationally the weather had been so poor that the public collectively jumped at a day out. I have this on inside industry knowledge.

That did seem very obvious, after the freezing cold weather in March etc. Its also very unusual to have a fine, sunny day coincide with a Bank holiday and under those conditions, a Zoo is an obvious venue for a spring day out, particularly in an inland area like the Midlands.

Regarding the Dinosaurs, I mentioned somewhere else that I felt it would be ironic if model Dinosaurs(as at Twycross) were to be the saviour of a Zoo where the prime motivation is the display of wild/live animals.

A number of people on here have been more upbeat about Twycross' future since the various 'cosmetic' changes that have occurred recently. However I find your alternative(and more realistic?) view on their immediate future interesting, to say the least.

Let's try to remain positive folks, we were pleased that the zoo had started to improve things in recent months, albeit in various small ways and on a limited budget,I sincerely hope, and I am sure I speak for all of us, that things continue to improve slowly and surely, I have no doubt that Twycross was not the only outdoor attraction that had a good day on Bank Holiday Monday, due to the good weather, but the fact is that they DID have a good day, the best for six years apparently, hopefully this will continue during the Spring Bank Holiday week coming soon, and the 50th anniversary of the zoo.

Fairs fair.....

Absolutely, praise where praise is due and all that! Twycross have made positive moves to improve the lives of their great apes and some lower primates, along with camel, tortoise etc.
Let us keep up the positivity and support.

I don't think praise is due, in my opinion, one swallow does not make a summer, there is much to do and a clear plan for all to see would be great. It's easy to criticise I agree however the truth is painful Twycross has lots to do, get cracking! Then I will hand out the praise.

Rome wasn't built in a day:)

Does anyone know what has happened to the keepers let go for the alleged Elephant incident?
Well it didn't go to court, almost as if they weren't guilty of anything, other than not wanting to change from free contact to protected contact!!!

I thought the current CEO was very much commercially minded? The current approach, on the face of it, appears to be one of very careful spending and belt tightening and the CEO appears less ego-maniac with a hunger for the limelight, more unassuming, practical type quietly getting on with the job in hand. Do you have the inside track and does it tell a different story?

They made similar allegations on here a month ago, but the mods deleted them in order to err on the side of caution; I myself haven't heard anything of the sort.

The truth will come out shortly when a case reaches the employment tribunals, the user name integrity is for a reason ie the user has integrity.
