Not sure if it's been mentioned here or not but new London Zoo map shows hippos in the old tiger enlosure???
That must be his 'press release'.He's a real cracker, certainly the best looking male they've ever had there, but the question remains, will he or won't he...?
I went down on Friday and had a good long look at Kumbuka (groups of very rude, noisy and pushy children and teachers allowing). He seemed very calm, was looking through the glass at people a lot. Didn't seem to like the noise levels at times. Was in the inside room on his own with Jookie all day. Effie was outside and Zaire was in the tunnel above.
He was very calm and patient towards Jookie. They sat very near each other a few times. He was never aggressive or pushy. She seemed very nervous at times - fled up to her corner at the top, at times had her arms wrapped around her. Mostly things looked very good though.
A freind who knows the zoo well informed me earlier on that Kumbuka and Effie had been getting on "very very well" and he seemed to have no trouble figuring out what to do considering he had been in an all male group for so long. Perhaps they put him in with Jookie on Friday to try and give Effie a break!
Sorry , but if all four species are being moved, how can there be more space for all of them relative to numbers, there have to be losers in this situation! i suspect the Diana monkeys are going to the gibbon cage so they will have less space. I think what you meant was the size of the cage will be relative to group size, but that will only really benefit the colobus. Its monkey (& gibbon) musical chairs at London Zoo. The white-cheeked gibbon, diana monkeys, colobus monkeys and spider monkeys are all swapping enclosures. The end result is a larger space for everyone relative to there numbers. Don't know the new locations for them just yet, but the colobus monkeys seem to be making the move to the lion terraces, with the spider monkeys going to gorilla kingdom. The diana monkeys are the only ones currently off show while there enclosure is updated to allow the moves to start.
