Woburn Safari Park Woburn news 2013

New Amur Tiger, Elton arrived safely last week

Current numbers for the American Black Bears are 3.3 including the new male
 
Visited the park last week. The giraffes were in the yard, had a head count and there appears to be 2 new babies since my visit last September. One of them looks only a couple of weeks old. I have been trying to sort out all of there names, if anyone can help me finish/adjust the list I would be very grateful. Casper, Savannah, Acacia, Danica, Freya, Frankie, Keira, Kimmie, Lindsay, Lunar, Majestic. The 3 youngsters names I don't know! Savannah looked pregnant again as well.
 
in the 2013 brochure woburn have annouced 2 new exhibits a meerkat , mongoose and porcupine exhibit and a deer feeding paddock which are opening in may and easter
 
First of the new arrivals for the now named "Desert springs" exhibit are a group of 11 meerkat from Cotswold WP are now in quarantine on site.
 
Visited today, my first visit in over 10 years.

Was very impressed with the hoofstock collection great variety of species. Loved that fact the rhinos could get so close to the cars. And nice to see some wildabeast.So many giarffes too, couldnt believe how many they had.i counted 15 i think. The bear bit was also good to see, sure last time i went there was a lot more wolves mind.

The monkey bit too was good , when i last went they were with the bears. Didnt seem as many this time mind.

The foot safari bit was ok, could do with a few more bits there IMO, i liked the lemur, monkey and walaby walkthrough. The deer stop/train seemed a bit pointless IMO over very quickly.

a few questions for the regular visitors, how many tigers do they have i could only spot 2???

And the elephants is their only 3? i thought shame couldnt see them more close up from the car.
 
there are four eles and 2 tigers theres 1 male ele called raja and 3 females chandrika damini and yu zin who is the matriarch and newest ele
 
Judging bu the size of two of the American black bears, it would suggest they are cubs that look like they were born last year and emerged from den this year. Photo of one in the gallery, didn't confirm age/place of birth but certainly not adults and I think only an adult male arrived recently?

Missing: females Lehana and Maya.

Calves from 2012: M born June 2012, F born July 2012 (to F Savannah).
And you said 2 new ones this year?

According to Woburn's Facebook, five new American Black Bear cubs arrived in May 2013. Fantastic news, does this mean Woburn now have 11 Bears? :D

Looks like they were imported.
Fair play to Woburn then, if this is the case for investing in this species, maybe not the rarest or spectacular bear, but for ursid diversity in Europe and the UK a huge boost.

Agree 100%, well done to Woburn for importing them. For some of us, it gives us some hope we'll see them in a few years.

Very much so! It does have a walk around area, with sealions, penguins, lemur & squirrel monkey walk throughs, plus lorikeet indoor feeding, but not much else that can be seen other than from the car.
 
I was surprised last week to see several cars in the lion and monkey areas with the windows partially open.

Ive seen it regularly, especially when people are feeding the monkeys, but the worst ive seen was in a queue in the lion enclosure on a hot day several people were smoking out of their fully open windows. Worse still one bloke appeared to be asleep at the wheel with his head leaning out of the window!!
 
The new Black Bear cubs are confirmed as having come from Ree Park in Denmark recently (same place that the new adult male came from)
