Some rumours on renovations at the zoo in Katowice:
a) New Giraffe House and exhibit.
They received 2 hybrid males from Wroclaw earlier when the latter changed to reticulated giraffe.
b) New Rhino House and exhibit.
Apparently, the old breeding male Bos has died (confirmation please). Sad as of old it was the only breeding pair in Poland with consecutive breeding success (allthough the female could now be considered post-reproductive. Curiously, both the latest offspring still seem to reside there .... (I would sent the young female to a proven breeding institution and bring in 2 new females for the locally bred male Zulus.

Any new info on the above?

Both giraffes from Wrocław Zoo died in 2010. Last giraffe in Chorzów (Katowice) Zoo died this year.
You are absolutely right about rhinos (Boś died this summer), but I think that zoo will do nothing with it. Chorzów Zoo is rather reluctant to cooperation with other zoos, especially abroad.
Giraffe/Rhino House had small renovation only. So new Giraffe and Rhino Houses are rather in plans for far future.

Zoo Proactive is a project designed by Anna Struska, student of architecture at Silesian High School of Technology. The main idea is to stop degradation and importance decline of Silesian Park where zoo is situated. I would rather treat this project as an academic study although it seems to be very interesting.

Any more precise dates for when the giraffe males Selim (ex Wroclaw), Safi (ex Wroclaw), Ecik (longterm Chorzow resident) and a female born 12/1/2005 with no particular name died exactly?

Not much seems to happen here ... :(

They did open a new Antelope House.

The zoo starts construction of a new Giraffe slash South American house

Google translation of this article:
In the Silesian zoo it will be like in a tropical forest. A contract was signed for the reconstruction of the Giraffe House.

A contract was signed at the Marshal's Office for the reconstruction of the giraffe house in the Silesian Zoological Garden. Thanks to the investment, visitors will be able to admire sloths, anteaters and many other exotic species all year round.

An agreement was signed in the Marshal's Office regarding the reconstruction of the Giraffe House in the Silesian Zoological Garden. As part of the new project, a rainforest exhibition will be built there. The investment will cost PLN 17 million.

When will the investment be commissioned? The designed reconstruction of the giraffe pavilion is aimed at adapting the facility to the breeding and presentation of species of fauna and flora occurring in the South American biotope in the climatic zone including rainforest areas.

Modernization of the Silesian Park is gaining momentum, it is another large project that will be implemented in the Silesian Zoological Garden. It will be a unique place, enabling the observation of animals in a modern formula and I believe that, as in the case of the return of penguins, it will become another attraction of the zoo and will attract many visitors - explained Jakub Chełstowski, Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship on October 26.

What will the new pavilion look like? The reconstruction of the facility will allow for the creation of a modern exhibition of fauna and flora of the rainforests of South America. In the building, thanks to the renovation works, you will be able to observe, among others sloths, anteaters and American otters (Arirans). It will be the largest facility in the zoo to date. Visiting the exhibition will be possible all year round, both inside and outside the building.

The reconstruction will take over a year The contractor for the project will be Przedsiębiorstwo MAXIMUS - ZBH Sp. z o.o. NS. k. with its seat in Siemianowice Śląskie. The total cost of the investment is to amount to over PLN 17 million. Work is to begin in the coming days. The investment completion date is 425 days from the date of handover of the construction site.

Hi Guys. My first post. I live near "Slaskie Zoo" and will try to add some news starting today. Hope you like it.

The zoo announced yesterday that 3 wolverines (sex is yet unknown) were born on the 26th of February. This is the first time ever the wolverines were born in polish zoo. The father Thor is from Osnabrück zoo and mother Tatyana is from Brno zoo. Additionally the whole family should be getting a new exhibit in the near future. The plan is to build one for wolverines and lynxes.

Like Jana mentioned our zoo is in process of building the new South American house. It should be ready at the beginning of 2023. Lots of animals: howlers, anteaters, giant otters, capybaras, toucans, tamanduas, sloths + some terrariums.

Here you can find how this should look like:
https://pdf.ac/1apRPj

The cost of the building is around 4,5 mln euros. Should be a great exhibit price/what you get.

A 8 year old male giraffe arrived at the zoo on friday (01.04.2022). His name is Iroko and came from Gdanskie Zoo (Poland). He will join 3 other females and lets hope there will be baby giraffes in 1,5 year or so ;)
