Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden A Walk Through the Zoo

I seem to recall the "fallen tree" in the 80s at least (I'll have to look at old slides to remmeber if it was the same) and colobus and guenon were there at least from my first visit in 1986. I remember when aardwolf was in the colobus exhibit as well

The zoo used to be full of cool little surprises like that. I can recall there being dik-dik in the moat in front of the hippos at the elephant house.

Tonight I will post videos of White-handed gibbons in their indoor exhibit, World of the Insect, Cat Canyon, and the new Africa.

You didn't do all of Jungle Trails? And I thought you did Africa! already?

~Thylo:cool:

I did a preview of Africa where the Plains and lions could not be seen close up. I didn't so Jungle Trails because I didn't have space on my camera. I'll fit it in next week.

The gibbon video.

I'm made a video of this because I remember members complaining (based off a photo) about how the indoor exhibit either looked too small or didn't do it's job by providing brachiating opportunities for the apes. When overall this is not the case and they can brachiate just fine.

the size looks good for an indoor space, but the branches and ropes don't seem well-placed for proper brachiation. Certainly from the video the gibbon wasn't really doing that at all. He was swinging to a branch, running along it to get to another hand-hold, swinging to the next one and so on.

I actually quite like this room despite the fake Disney-esque concrete "forest", but it could have done with a better arrangement of branches.

The trees are kind of funny looking. I forgot to mention that orangutans share the room but they are never in there during the day so I can't tell how they go through the trees.

Thanks for the video of the African exhibits. I must have been looking at the photos and descriptions wrong. I think I was under the impression the yard opening in 2014 was the one for the lion. Now seeing the real lion exhibit, I think it's a tad small.

Think so for two lions?

Thanks for posting the Insect video. I have always wanted to visit this exhibit and now I kind of have.

I was wondering where this Youtube comment went;) Anyways you are welcome and I hope you get the chance to visit one day.

Out of curiosity, do you know if the basic layout of the building has changed much since it opened in the 1970s or is it now pretty much as it has always been?

I've been told by an older friend that the layout hasn't changed much at all. Even the butterfly rainforest was there in 1978.
