Two of my cousins in Chicago are having babies in Sept. thus having a duel shower in Chicago.Well that means lets build a zoo trip around it :)

So here is what we came up with July 9-15

Henry Vilas Zoo Madison Wisconsin-1st time visit
Minnesota Zoo-1st time visit
Como Zoo- 1st-time visit
Shedd Aquarium-one of our regular spots
Brookfield Zoo-one of our regulars -excited to see the Sloth Bear cubs
Toledo Zoo -One of our regular zoos

Any thoughts and advice are always appreciated.

Totally bummed that we're going to have to cut out Minnesota due to my sister who is coming with us can't get extra days off! New trip includes

Milwaukee County Zoo
Shedd Aquarium
Lincoln Park Zoo
Brookfield Zoo
Toledo Zoo

Does anyone have info on the interchange project in Milwaukee?

I apologize for the late response:o. I'm not sure about detours from the airport area, but you can check the Zoo's main site or its Zoological Society site for more details. Other than slow traffic, I wouldn't imagine you having a problem.

Hope this helps.

Oh I just realize the trip starts tomorrow! I expect text messages with animal photos! ;-)

It was my 5th (Marty) and Bonnie's 2nd visit to the Milwaukee County Zoo and although we realize my MCZ is not the greatest zoo in the world we spent the whole day there and had a wonderful day.One thing I gotta say is that both their docents and animal care staff are some of the nicest in the country. We enjoyed engaging in great conversations all day long.

Were kind of bummed out that the jaguar cubs were lounging both times we dropped by to see them.

Also not very impresed with the new outdoor bonobo enclosure ! While its an improvement over no outdoor access,we felt there was much more potential given the wooded area in which it sits.Staff told us that a lot of research went into the exhibit and the bonobos were very active all day!

Another fun little tid bit at the Milwaukee County Zoo is that they exhibit both Bairds and Malayan Tapir which very pleasing to us :D

Glad to hear that you had a great day at my home zoo!

I couldn't agree more about the new outdoor bonobo exhibit; with a whole forest surrounding the Apes of Africa building, they deserve much better than what I like to call "The Bonobo Cage Trail."

Good thing you got to see the jaguar cubs though it's too bad they weren't active.

By any chance did you see the black bear exhibit? It's going through a renovation right now; trees were added this year, and the entire project is supposed to be done by 2015. If so, do you have any photos of it?

Did not really notice anything going on in the black bear exhibit! Both bears were on exhibit one in a hammock and one by its exhibit door.
