The Malayan Tapirs lived in the house the Pygmy hippos live in, and also in a house and enclosure on the other side of the road, either where the Takin are, or closeby.

Marwell had Brazilian Tapirs long before the Malayans too, they had them when they first opened or very soon after.

Thanks for that. I didn't realise that they had Brazilian tapirs when it opened.
Can u remember what the enclosure looked like? Any photos?

I can remember seeing the Brazilian Tapirs before the semi-aquatic mammal house opened. I think they were in the enclosure where the Grey Kangaroos are now or adjacent.

I remember them in that area when i first visited, with an outdoor pool , i think, though the grey kangaroos have gone now too!

Malayan Tapir were held at Marwell until 2005 - at that time, there were 2 females at Marwell, but both would be euthanised that year, because of health issues relating to a 'bone marrow deficiency'.
The last two Malayan Tapirs that were put down in 2005 were a pair, Saa Yung and Lodhran.

Why on earth resurrect a 9 year old thread that already had an answer on it? Bored today?
