Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Gardens rainforest

The giant otters are in a temporary exhibit (a modified former maned wolf exhibit) where they have been for the last few years. The tapir is still in its old exhibit.
The red uakaris, harpy eagles, and most of the other species that have been announced for the exhibit are behind the scenes. As of August 2013 none of the new exhibit is open to the public as it is still under construction.

According to the site plan that was posted on the construction fence at the zoo there will be Giant Otter, Harpy Eagle, Baird's Tapir, Cotton-top Tamarin, Agouti, Curassow, Howler Monkey, Red Uakari, Oropendola (most likely crested), and an Aquaria house (Red-bellied Piranha confirmed so far). The Jaguar exhibit was later added and will most likely open several months after the whole complex opens.

I don't know if all those species are still planned to be exhibited as some animals have already been scrapped like the Black Caiman and Leaf-cutter Ant exhibit.

I've been told that it won't be until sometime in 2014. That's all I know. Maybe somebody else here has better information.

In addition to the above listed species, others confirmed are Mata Mata Turtles, Keel-billed Toucans and Peacock Bass Cichlids. Information gleaned from the ZooScape newsletter.

Rainforest of the Americas Los Angeles Zoo
I am a subcontractor currently working on the Los Angeles Zoo Rainforest of the Americas project. Check out my Facebook Business Page Cal Rock Concrete Environments to see progress pictures and updates taken almost daily of the artist works. Specifically Lily Pads and Bridge, giant interactive bird nests, exhibitry sculptures, including the specialized pieces that will authentincate the Rainforest experience. Recently finished the Piranhas and Boa tanks so continue to check back for pictures daily.

Rainforest of the Americas Los Angeles Zoo
We are almost complete. There have been unforseen issues out of anyone's control while construction progressed slowly in the beginning; The entire project was designed to be built on a mountain therefore excavation of the mountain took much longer then expected for the General Contractor. Everyone will be amazed at how beautiful the Exhibits are built and will hopefully appreciate that the extended time spent will show in the quality . There should be a big PRESS released Grand Opening so check back for that after the New Year. If I were you I may wait till after Spring Break, so that you see everything totally complete and there are less people..
Caiman Exhibit is built and def on the plan, though not certain it is a black Caiman which is ridiculous because I spoke with the Reptile Curator about this very topic the other day while he approved my Liana Vines installment and Mangrove Roots attachment to the Piranhas Tank. He by the way is super cool, very chill and not on social media sites. I inquired...
FYI, Additionally I am constructing a large Rolling with glass viewing Exhibit for a Marine Toad and a second for a Goliath Spider Exhibit, and they look awesome! Jaguar is totally a GO, but like stated above it will open later, many months later so don't delay in checking out the Rainforest during the opening months but come back and see the jaguars new digs too later in the year.

Welcome to Zoochat Rockgrl! I saw that in one of the photos you posted in your facebook page you mention 18 exhibits. Is it possible if you could post a list of those exhibits? On the site plan there are only 7 exhibits shown, so I'm wondering what the other exhibits are.

I read "a large Rolling with glass viewing Exhibit" to mean a moveable tank (i.e. on wheels or runners) with a glass front? Otherwise I couldn't make much sense of it.
Probably just a tank on a rolling base that sits in front of the window. This allows staff to switch out animals by rolling one away and placing another in the window. You may walk by and see one animal, and later, another. Smart way to display animals on a rotational basis, and easy for maintenance. win-win.
Black Caiman, are definitely not in the mix. The population in the AZA is extremely low and confined to the Southeastern U.S. and those animals are not moving anytime soon. The Zoo has opted for Paleosuchus palpebrosus. Which is fine, as I do not think they could offer Melansuchus niger a large enough exhibit.
