Favourite bear species poll 2
Something wrong happened so I did not get to post the poll in self in the last post, but here it goes.
So it have been a while since I have posted anything on the forum. But here it goes; What is your fovurite bear species ? spectacled, sun, sloth, brown, black, asian black, polar, giant panda. Also I am interested in how large captive populations the different bear species have. Answer the poll !
 
Man, that's pointless :) Everybody loves pandas and Knut.
Mine is Sun bear, the smallest and cutest one (but no less dangerous!)
 
Brown bear are my favourite, with many sub species you can't get bored :D my favourite brown bear exhibit is Whipsnade zoos which has stood the test of time as well.

Did someone forget the 8th species? ;)
I honestly can't think of a list of my own right now, but I'll try to answer this later.
 
I know! I cannot believe I did not remember one. I like the spectacles joke. Anyway, the updated list:

What is a Panda Bear? Presumably you are referring to the Giant panda?
 
Favorite Bears

I like all bears. I find the color phases of some species to be very interesting. Bears are "plastic" in individual variation within a species, similar to the domestic dog. If a bear species were tamed and bred like domestic dogs have been, I suspect all kinds of weird bears would be the result. I like the glacier (blue) bear and Kermode's (white) bear color phases of the American black bear. I also like the golden moon bear phase of the Asiatic black bear. The San Diego Zoo has a very dark brown, nearly black, individual of the Manchurian brown bear. Some zoos have green or greenish polar bears, a problem caused by algae growing in their hollow insulating hairs. I have not seen the glacier, Kermode's, nor the golden moon bear in a zoo. I have also read that sloth bears have a brown color phase, and that giant pandas also have a brown and white instead of black and white color variation. There is also a population of "black" (more like dark) orangutans which was fairly recently discovered, but of course they aren't bears.
