Chester Zoo Zoo project

At last the proposals are out there if only we can have a decent look at them!

my words exactly kiang! the article says july how did we miss it?

water rides, uh oh dont like the sound of this!

but the jungle and aqaurium look great

Pretty pictures, but not many animals in them. I would hate the zoo to turn into Disneyland on Dee, but I don't suppose that is the aim of the project.

disneyland on dee :D maybe the water ride will just be a boat journey through the habitats?

Chester looking at different ways to get around the zoo if it triples its size. The "water rides" will be similar to what they have now. i.e. a boat taking in serval island enclosures. There is talk of another form of Monorail or train.

If the zoo triples in size, they will need to provide better ways of getting around otherthan walking so that most of the zoo can be covered in one day (its a struggle now if you stop to look at everything). Another reason for the planned hotel. ;)

Intereting are the concept for the east side of the zoo, you can clearer see an exhibit with a waterfall, maybe be for hippos??

I imagine the reason few animals are shown on the plans, is that the Zoo doesn't want to give away any clues (or hasn't finalised the superzoo species list).

As taun said, the water ride will probably just be a grander version of the waterbus.

i guess the water ride at flamingo land works with giving the vistors thril and also views of the animals!

Tigerlemurguy, am quite sure that chester plans for any type of water ride will just be a better version of the current boat ride there.

I have two sources that confirm this, unless plans change and if they do it will be more likely to leave out a boat ride. One comes from the zoo itself and the other from one of the companies that tendered for the work (which I know does not design theme park rides!).

ok thanks taun, still i think a gentle river ride would be nice for guest to put thier feet up for a bit

Can I just confirm that you understand that, this is what chester are looking into. Different ways to go around the zoo NOT theme park style rides? Cable cars, trains, mono rails and boats have all been mentioned as possible idea they are going to look at.

my legs usually ache like hell after walking around a zoo for a day :D is there any date yet for when its to open?

There is now date, but there is talk that the first phase to be complete by 2012. Which I believe is the giraffe, moving and new hippo enclosure. However these are all subject to change.

They did have a look at Giant panda but the last I heard is that they have now been scarpped but they are thinking of putting a live video link to a panda reserve. So things are changing and evolving.

However if this all goes ahead then I would expect construction to start 2010 at the latest.

Saying all this thou Phase 2 of the RORA needs to be built first, therefore that may push back the start date.
