I visited the Aquarium today, 11/10, Im not into fish (so this is not an review, just some toughts one the place and even because I cannot say that much one what they keep because most of the tanks dont have any info). I had nothing to do in the afternoon and time was too short to visit the Zoo, so tought lets try the aquarium, the ticket is expensive for chinese standard's, 160 RMB, but it have to do with the location in the middle of the modern Pudong District and Tower Pearl of the Orient, so I expected many tourists would visit that place, but I was wrong, even at the hotel who im are they dont know about the place (I staying just 3 km from the Aquarium at a hotel that have to do even with the Aquarium name and the staff didn´t know about this place so I had to get an map and show them to get an cab that also didn´t know about this place), not many visitors and mostly of them chinese, some crossing the barriers and banging one the glass panels, but the staff dont cares about it! Like at the Sea Dragon Tanks was an barrier but the visitors just jumped it to get closer to get some photos even with staff standing nearby.

The aquarium itself is very nice with many different sectors, like the Yangtzé River Rare Species, Asian, South America, Africa and Ocean.

They claim to have the longest tunnel in a aquarium of the world (155 meters) in the Ocean Tank that displays sharks, some ray species, turtles and many other fishes.

The South American Area was surprising for me with the large Pacus and Arapaimas and even some fresh water ray species and amazon river turtles (still very small) and some very large electric eel´s and lungfish.

Some other interesting fish where the freshwater sawfish, many very large pangasius, for me the most "funny" display was the educative room Save the Sharks where you could touch some sharks and where they display one the screen movies about the shark fin trade, so I tought the aquarium can only be owned by a foreing company being Shark Fin Soup a Delicacy in China, principally here in Shanghai.

For fish lover´s the place really is worth a visit! I got some photos, but not that much because everywhere the people where in front of the tanks...and well take photos is not my best, but I will upload what I got.

The fact that they have information about shark finning practices is very encouraging and great to hear. I hope the message gets through to some visitors, and other Chinese aquariums/zoos/other institutions start promoting this messgae too.

Do any other Chinese aquariums educate about this issue?

There are anti-shark-fin advertisements, anti-ivory advertisements, anti-tiger-bone advertisements and anti-bear-bile advertisements everywhere in Beijing's subway system :)
