Adelaide Zoo Adelaide Zoo News 2013

The Brazilian Tapir exhibit would look nice with a small group of mara sharing the space.

Probably (slightly) more zoogeographically correct to have them sharing with capys. Pretty sure I have some photos of previous Adel maras and tapirs sharing exhibit.

Good to see Adel Zoo (and hopefully other Aust zoos) taking on S American species (which I believe that I championed a few years ago on some other thread...). Fits in well with the other regions that they focus on. Now if only someone would import some jaguars...

And here is an interesting video of a white meerkat at Adelaide Zoo:

I saw this Meerkat last week, she is not an albino and used to have normal colouring, but has become white over the past few months. There was a sign on the exhibit explaining the situation.

I hope to God this video has a limited distribution, or that this animal isn't bred from too freely. I have terrible visions of zoos swarming with white Meerkats....

Haha, I think that's unlikely, Adelaide Zoo should be fairly responsible, they're certainly not one of those zoos with lots of albino critters. :D

A new group of otter has moved to Adelaide Zoo, according to Facebook:

Adelaide Zoo has a new ‘romp’ of Oriental Small-clawed Otters. The family group, originally from Perth Zoo, has just moved into their new home near the front entrance. They’ve begun to explore the habitat and can usually be seen swimming in the pond towards the back. As they’re still settling in it’s going to take them a little time to gain the confidence to approach the front of the habitat.

A new group of otter has moved to Adelaide Zoo, according to Facebook:

This is a 1.1 breeding pair + 2.2 offspring born at Perth.

EDIT: The male is named Doan and the female is Boo (breeding pair). Doan is the brother of Tuan who stayed at Perth and has produced two litters in two years!
