The field IDs were wrong. They both turned out to be other species upon closer examination. They even fooled experts in the field.

Yeah I am quite similar. I started birding a few years ago when I bought a field guide, but I only really got into it this year because of this thread! Thank you folks for igniting a passion in me.

I regret not being an avid birder when I visited Cairns and Kakadu a few years ago, as well as when I lived and visited many countries in Europe and the Western Hemisphere.
