Hi everyone!

Just a quick introduction, I'm a mum of three small children and did a Zoology degree at the University of Aberdeen several years ago, before signing my life away to motherly duties. I've still got a keen interest in conservation, and have been drawn to this page after reading on David Gill's personal facebook page about the death of one of South Lakes' Sumatran tigers. Something didn't sound right, so I did a bit of googling and came across this forum, noting his catalogue of errors in the past. I'm now on a bit of a crusade trying to find out exactly what's going on at SLWAP, as we live in lancaster and it's fairly local to us. All I've read is positive comments on the facebook page, but now I see that's because it's carefully vetted by the 'big' man. I'm quite concerned that a) there doesn't seem to be a single item in the media regarding this death - surely if sumatran tiger numbers are in the 20s in UK captivity this death should be more significant? and b) why there is nothing in the media regarding the death of the cub.

Kindest regards, I probably won't be about much, but I'll be reading whatever I can with interest!

Thanks.

Spot on :p a good number of people on this forum have been banned from posting on the facebook pages after pointing out various inaccuracies, lies and half-truths which have been posted over the years! I myself was blocked after the zoo claimed to have the only tayra in the UK, and I replied with an observation that both Exmoor and Hamerton also have the species :p

For a good grounding on some of the more recent events at the collection, have a read of this thread.
