A Zoochatter's day out

Thoughts and opinions please - An idea has been suggested to possibly look at organizing a day trip for Zoochat members within the UK to visit a collection or more than one collection if one or more were local to each other over the course of a day

At the moment the very rough plan would be to hire a coach or minibus that would meet a central location (probably in the Midlands) that would then travel onto the collection and then (probably) back to that central point again. Obviously if you live near the collection/s then you would be welcome to meet us there. There will obviously be a charge to cover the coach, admission and other costs etc (can't say how much because it obviously depends where we go, but the more people we can get the lower the price per head should be!)

So now it's over to you ;) If you would be interested in coming then please post below with your interest and where you want to go. A week from now this thread will be reviewed and subject to interest a choice will be made on where the potential trip might be to...

Just to get you started suggestions so far have included...
Blackbrook and Trentham
Twycross
Marwell
Yorkshire Wildlife Park
Belfast and Dublin (this would obviously have to be done over a weekend and hence would be more expensive than some other trips so please bear this in mind, you also need a passport for getting over the border into Dublin!)

A great idea. I'd be interested but I'm working quite a few weekends these days.
Dublin & Belfast sounds irresistible.
How about other long-distance weekend trips, like Edinburgh & HWP, a weekend in Devon, or Newquay+Paradise Park+Screech Owl Sanctuary...
Depends on budget too, I suppose.

On a personal note Devon would be favourite, Paignton, Living Coasts, Shaldon, Newquay and Exmoor with possibly Paradise Park could easily be doable over 3 days! If that's a plan then I'm already 90% in! ;)

Right.. to start with we are looking to arrange a day trip. Dublin/Belfast and possibly a tour of the West Country might be possible in the future IF this works and we can get the numbers needed, but for now we are just looking for interest in a day trip. Still need suggestions on where too, but if we can come up with something then there is chance it could be arranged for this Summer or late Spring.....

I would definitely be 'interested' , depending on timing and I think it's sensible to start with a day trip.
My problem is that unless it's Edinburgh, i would probably be excluded from the bus idea, as would a few others, but the majority will probably be based in the north/midlands.
I would suggest you go for somewhere fairly accessible/central first & if you want it to be a double visit, wait until Iopening hours extended.
Possibilities : Cotswold, Twycross, Dudley, maybe Whipsnade or London.

I drove the 6 & half hour round trip to Chester for the walk & talk last year, so anywhere in the midlands would be a breeze for me by comparison. Yorkshire WP would be a good one too, but i'd rather wait for the big arrival before making that journey!

Nisha if you are flying to Belfast and driving to Dublin you don't need a passport!

Also if you are coming to Belfast make sure you let us know! Tayto could be arranged also as it's on the way to Dublin!

Depending on location and day I'd be interested - it would have to be a weekend for me though. Cotswolds sounds good

I think it is an excellent idea; I would definitely like to participate. (I thoroughly enjoyed the ZooChat events that “zoogiraffe” organised at Chester Zoo and I’m sure another gathering of ZooChatters would be equally successful.)

Personally I rather like the idea of a trip to Blackbrook as I’ve only been once before and it would be a good opportunity to visit again but I’d happily go elsewhere.

Please can you inform us of the date well in advance to ensure that it is kept free.

Possibly, depending on where although I'm not overly keen on the concept of whipping round a few places in one day.

I wouldn't worry about you having to rush round anywhere as I am having nothing to do with the planning or organizing this event if it should happen!!

I am guessing this idea has died a death then given that we are now over the week, stated in the first post by Nisha!!

Something like that - wasn't enough interest to justify planning anything (was looking for a minimum of 15 people as a starting point) but if there is further interest in the future then there is no reason why it couldn't be looked at again.....
