Zoo developments for 2014 will include a smaller but overhauled Monkey and bird garden. This will include a walk through with Squirrel monkeys among other species. This area will be renamed - Amazu Treetop Adventure

In other news, Ocelot have joined the collection (apparently in an enclosure next to the Lynx) and a new Lemur enclosure has been built in the Wanyama area (no details on species given)

Am I right in thinking the monkey and bird garden is being relocated, they only built it recently anyway, Chessington have some strange priorities when it comes to budget spending.

Great to see them have Ocelots, although of course Margays would have been even better!

Its interesting that Ocelots have returned to the collection once again.

We believe the lemurs to be the Golden Bamboo species, after doing a bit of a search seeing as they (as of Feb Half Term) do not have a board and they've also moved the Southern Ground Hornbills just by Wanyama's hotel entrance.

Though we weren't aware that Chessington previously homed ocelots.

I'd be incredibly surprised if they *are* the Golden Bamboo Lemur (Hapalemur aureus) as this is not held within European collections - much more likely to be Northern or possibly Aloatran.

Alaotran. I understand it to be one of the most successful 'colonies' of this species in Europe. 11 individuals.

Yes Chessington have kept and bred Ocelots very successfully in past years, the last pair, were there around 1990/91, were male and female "Cortez" and "Rosa"

The full species list for Amuza is now confirmed on the parks website as:

Spider Monkeys (appears to be Colombian Black from the photo)
White Faced Saki Monkey
Red Handed Tamarins
Golden Headed Lion Tamarins
Bolivian Squirrel Monkeys
Geoffreys Marmoset
Capybara
Military Macaws
Red Lored Amazon Parrot
Agouti
Giant Wood Rail
Three Banded Armadilo

AMAZU - part of the Zoo, at Chessington World of Adventures Resort

NEW BIRTHS!!! 2 male Scimitar Horned Oryx which (by my understanding is a first for them). 3 Sitatunga calves. Twin Aloatran Gentle Lemurs.

Plans have been submitted for an overhaul of the current Penguin exhibit. Due to open in March, it will be a renovation rather than a new build. No new species mentioned in the plans which is a bit of a shame... Just the Humboldt's. Adding Rockhoppers or even a couple of Gentoos would have been nice
