Football Premier League Season 2013-2014

Aaron Ramsey broke his own leg at Stoke, it is quite clear when you watch the video. The referee sent Shawcross off even though he committed no offence, and then gave the free kick to Stoke.

Hmm, I disagree!

Could I ask, for somebody who has been critical of Pulis in the past, how do you feel about the progress made under Hughes, and about the superb job Pulis is doing at Palace?

He was described as a 'ticking time bomb' but none of those problems have surfaced. As for Stoke, he would have been absolutely superb at the Britannia, his strength is very well suited to direct play and he is, believe it or not, technically superior to Jon Walters.

Returning to the topic of England, I would have to disagree with regard to Adam Johnson, Danny Welbeck and Kyle Walker who have cropped up in discussion. Sunderland have been hugely reliant on Johnson this season and he is a valuable impact player who will stay in the Premier League beyond this summer regardless of Sunderland's fate.

Welbeck is definitely England's youth and is a very useful player to have about. The same can't be said of Kieran Gibbs, who is (a) older than Welbeck, (b) unreliable and injury-prone and (c) a fair way behind Baines, Cole and Shaw in terms of ability.

Walker shouldn't even make the squad, he's too rough around the edges and if you want a bombing full-back then Glen Johnson is your man. Calum Chambers and Kieran Trippier should be names touted as his replacement within the next 12 months or so.

As for Milner, he can run all he likes, he is still a boring wide midfielder who just isn't as dynamic a player as the other wingers. You wouldn't see him in the squad for any other top side.

As much as Milner gives effort, I cannot fault him for that, his ability isn't good enough compared to a Andros Townsend for example. I agree, we need younger players coming through.

Right backs have been a bit of a problem since the departure of Gary Neville. It's a pleasure watching Kieran Trippier weekly and he is one of the best right-backs I've seen. I could be biased in saying that, however I rate him more than Leeds' right back, Sam Byram.

I think Ashley Cole is past it now, Luke Shaw and Leighton Baines have plenty more potential. IMO, Daniel Welbeck shouldn't go, I wish Jay Rodriguez would have gone however his injury now rules him out of the World Cup. Incidentally, does anybody collect Panini World Cup stickers, or is it just me? :D

Andros Townsend had one good game for England and has featured little for spurs since December.
Rodriguez is a crying shame and I'm extremely disappointed that he is out. Him and Walcott would be fantastic to go to the world cup.

I think this sums up the difference, Stoke has already scored more away goals than last season, and they have 2 away games left.

At Sunderland last season, the home team were without their two strikers, their other striker was sent off after 19 minutes, Stoke scored in the 10th minute and played for (and got) a draw.

Mr Hughes has made a huge amount of progress and I think he will do a better job taking the club forward.

Mr Pulis did the job he was paid for, he kept Stoke in the Premiership and I wish him well at Crystal Palace.

He also took Stoke to the F.A.Cup final for the first time. It is just a shame that two of his main players missed the game through injury.

Finally I am pleased that the F.A. has rejected the application by Hull City to become Hull Tigers. After all, where would it end? You could see Stoke No Hopers one day.
:D

RE: Cat-Man, best of luck to yourself as well.

With regard to Stoke No Hopers, having been at the Britannia today, I would argue that Newcastle may be more suited to the name. Alan Pardew has got to be nearing the end if the road now, it just so happens that good spells of form under his management have been whilst Yohan Cabaye was in the dressing room - it has fallen apart both whilst he was injured last season and since his departure this year. A real motivator may be needed?

Newcastle are pretty poor when it is 11 v 11, and not, as Boxing Day 9 v14 with a cheating referee.

Now the important question, you have been to the Britania Stadium, do you have frostbite?:D

Pardew is a safe option, because you wont get anywhere with the mediocre board that you have!
If you part ways with Alan, you should get Laudrup!
The thing with Newcastle is that they're a top club, with the 3rd biggest stadium in the country, a brilliant fan base full of passion. If I was an investor, St James' would be my first port of call!

One of the Whelan yellow cards was iffy, the other yellow and the Wilson red for dogso were nailed on.

Thankfully no frostbite, last went six years ago for a 0-0 FA Cup third round tie, at 6pm because ITV wanted to mess everyone about. We got there just in time for kick-off that time, but today we overestimated the travel time and washed up at the Britannia at half twelve with two-and-a-half hours to kill!

After a little nail biting late in today's game at Norwich, Liverpool fans cannot help but smile: although no-one will admit to confidence yet. The fat lady may start to sing in a week in or so.
I was appalled by Mr Mourinho's reaction to Chelsea's defeat yesterday. All he needed to say was something about being disappointed and trying harder next time, instead he let his club down with petulant sarcasm. He has become the specious one.

Alan

Who saw today then? Super Sunday if there ever was one..
Does anybody here play for a Sunday league team?

Obviously just a co-incidence but on Boxing Day Stoke had 2 players and the manager sent off by a biased referee at Newcastle. Today Newcastle lost at Liverpool, two players sent off for Newcastle, if Newcastle lost and Stoke won Stoke would finish ninth. Stoke won at West Brom. oh and the referee at Anfield was from Stoke . :D

Extra coincidence being that on both occasions, one of the red cards was correct (Wilson and Ameobi respectively). I think that second half was more a capitulation on Newcastle's behalf, as is so often the case.

I'm quite glad the season's over, the only consolation is that Liverpool didn't win the league.

Hehe, you hate Liverpool.

I just looked at Newcastle v Stoke again, I have not changed my mind.

Neither of Wheelan's tackles were bad, and after his first booking he was assaulted by Cabayae, the ref chose not to send off the Newcastle player, who was guilty of violent conduct.

Wilson was not the last defender when he gave away the penalty, a booking at the most.

Williamson was not sent off for deliberate handball when at 1-0 to Stoke he denied a goalscoring opportunity.

The ball clearly went out of play when Ben Arfa crossed for Newcastle's second goal. Do they still have linesmen? He couldn't miss it if he was doing his job.

I predicted Newcasle to go down last season, I predict they will go down 2014/2015 season, they have been poor since the turn of the year.

I would be worried too re:relegation, although the other year we spent enough in January to keep us clear, I can see that happening again.

As for this refereeing debate, Whelan's first yellow is light. The second, however, is justified. Cabaye's alleged 'violent conduct' was mirrored by Whelan after the first booking but neither were worthy of any punishment.

Wilson's red card was spot on. It doesn't matter whether he is the 'last man', Rémy is one-on-one with Sørensen if Wilson doesn't make the foul so it is a GSO.

The ball was out with Ben Arfa, assistant's view of the ball is blocked so that is unfortunate.

But credit to Stoke for completely proving me wrong this season.

I think they both will.

I say Swansea, Sunderland and the winner of the playoffs will go down.

Sunderland will stay up if Poyet is still the manager,I think West Brom will go down instead of Sunderland, but apart from that I agree with you.

Swansea will be at risk if they lose Bony. How do you think Villa will do ZooGiraffe?
