Hey guys! I'm from Ningbo which is a fabulous city in east China and not far from Shanghai. So if you wanna know something about zoos in Zhejiang province or even whole east China, please contact me, and I'll try to answer your questions. Actually we have a forum like here in China, so if I can't answer your questions, I'll move them to our forum and give the feedback as long as I get answers from there.
Anyway, it's my pleasure to be here :)

Welcome :)

Bring on pictures of primate enclosures if you have available?

Out of curiosity how many active users does the china zoo forum have?

We have more than 1000 members in forum, but most of them are not active. The real "active" users who always share their photos and discuss news are no more than 100.

I can provide some pictures of primate enclosures later. And these pictures were taken in Ningbo and Hangzhou, which are the most developed cities in Zhejiang province.

Just had a look in the China zoochat gallery only 1582 pictures with over alf fom two zoos. Beijing zoo 556 and Shanghi zoo 265.

It would be great to see more!

Maplelzx, I am curious are there some unknown to us great zoos exhibits you can share with us?

I have some pictures of Ningbo zoo and Hangzhou zoo. And I'll put these pictures here later. Some exhibits of these zoos are good, but some are really not.

Thank you i would love to see the good pics :)

The bad exhibits I can live without, unfortunately there are also bad exhibits in zoos that are considered the best in the world, so l am hopefull that there are some good enclosures in China :)

San Diago Zoo also has some really bad primate enclosures.
Cincinnati has the horrendous nocturnal houses.

@maplexzx, I prefer the uncensored lots.

A) gives a better overall impression of the zoo and where it stands in its development,
B) a good starting point for discussion on what can / may be planned in new exhibits, new presentations, current go-ings on with new animals/plants, breeding of species, conservation breeding ...

Basically the lot!

Second, I read you have another zoo in Zhejiang in Ningbo (that is Youngor is it not?)? Would be nice to see too.

Hangzhou - as far as I know - has both the conventional zoo and a wildlife park (the ill-fated one linked to the pharmaceutical co. using rhino horn as medicine).

Shanghai has both the conventional and famed Shanghai Zoo and the Shanghai Wild Animal Park (the safari park out of town ...).

I'll try to provide the news of development of zoos in east China, especially in Shanghai and Zhejiang province, coz I'm living here. And I'll try to introduce some zoos, too.

Your info about zoos in Hangzhou is right. Hangzhou zoo is a conventional zoo, and Hangzhou wildlife park is run by a company. In China, most 'zoos' are founded by government, and most 'safari parks' or 'wildlife parks' are founded by business companies. So you can easily tell that Shanghai zoo is founded by government and Shanghai wild animal park is founded by a company.

The one of significant differences between 'zoo' and 'wildlife park' in China is that 'zoo' will get sponsor from the government. So 'zoo' always has lower ticket price and better environment. And it is true that some of these company-running 'wildlife parks' put a lot of attention to wealth and business, but some are not. Like Ningbo Youngor Zoo I mentioned. 'Youngor Group' is a huge company in Zhejiang province, and Ningbo Youngor Zoo is founded by government, but sponsored and managed by this Yonugor Group. I'll show the photos later.

Welcome, ni hao. :D

I appreciate any news on rhinos and giant pandas, especially on my beloved giant panda baby boy "Fu Hu" at Jinan Zoo. "Fu Hu" was born in my home zoo Vienna, Austria, in August 2010. In Nov 2012 he was transferred to Ya'an and transferred to Jinan in January 2013.
