Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden What's Gnu at the Cincinnati Zoo - 2014

that really looks tragically small! Perhaps the zoo is confusing hippos with capybaras?

It is really. really small for a brand-new exhibit, if they follow these renderings. The Hippo ladies at Adventure Aquarium have more land area in their all-indoor exhibit. Feel bad for Cincy's as they will be locked-away for months on end. :(

They will be out from late March to early November, so not at all. What still baffles and confuses me is that St. Louis's exhibit smaller than the plans show by two times, but it is still praised (even by snowleopard).

How many sq ft would you say this hippo exhibit will be?

From constantly use of that website you gave me I'd have to compare it to the lion exhibit which is 11,290 sq ft. And I have been next to and even in those meerkat and wild dog exhibits and they are thrown way out of proportion to each other and the space left. The dog exhibit is not even close to being that wide.

So it may be small but not as small as i thought. I think the hippos they put in the graphics may be larger than life-sized.

Would you say the small, rock looking things in the middle of the paths represent people?

I measured the area as best as a could and I got 9,300 sq ft. Bigger than San Diego, St. Louis, Busch Gardens, Woodland Park, and Toledo. But I'll have to wait and see until next year when the foundation will be constructed, and wait another year for the finished product.

Ok thats a little larger than most hippo exhibits. I think they messed up making the hippos look larger and thats why it looked so puny. I hope the land area is not concrete and is either sand or grass. I cant imagine how small it would be when they planned to have crocodiles in that space to.

I'd say they'd use sand, lately they've been lying down grass beds in the driest of exhibits (lack of sand), but since they'll destroy it anyways, what's the point?

I wad given word that the zoo will finally use up their space in the Safari Parking Lot and is the next plan after Africa. I do not know what the plans are though.

Is it still opening in July (meerkat and wild dog) and is the hoofstock for Africa on grounds yet
