Toronto Zoo First Trip

Next weekend is my first trip up to Toronto Zoo. Needless to say I'm very excited. I'll be coming from Cleveland. Originally we were planning on stopping at Buffalo for a day, but have since decided to spend the extra day in Toronto. I'll be arriving Saturday afternoon and hopefully get a half day in then and a full day Sunday. Just wondering if anyone has any good ideas for our trip. I've been trying research as much as possible. Do they have posted feeding or keeper times? Things like this, anything would be awesome!

Also, I'm very into photography at the zoo. Any good photo opportunities to be had? Are there some enclosures better/worse suited for photography?

This is my first big 'zoo' trip outside of Ohio (go to Cincy, Columbus and Toledo quite often) and I'm looking forward to it very much. And I'm also glad that I've found zoobeat.com so that I can be in touch with all of you before visiting and hopefully get some good tips. Any help given is appreciated!

You can find a few tips near the end of the "Top Ten" thread ... here are my top Toronto Zoo visiting tips:

Plan to be AT the zoo at opening (9:00) - it is my favourite time, and also the best time to see the animals. You'll also get a better parking spot! Wear comfortable shoes, since there is a lot of walking. Right now, the "zoomobile" (shuttle tram/guided tour) runs once an hour I think, leaving the main station (at the front entrance) on the hour.

The Canadian Domain is the longest hike - DON'T leave it until the end
The pavilions can get crowded, especially in the middle of the day. Australasia has been pretty full this summer because of the new Barrier Reef exhibit. However, for photography, I would suggest doing the pavilions during the noon-2:00 stretch, because the lighting will be more diffuse than outside.

Eurasia is generally the quietest section of the zoo (followed by the Canadian Domain). It has a fair bit of walking with few exhibits, but there are some great zoological treasures on display in (generally) photogenic exhibits. When I visit the zoo, I tend to spend a fair bit of time in Eurasia, if only to get the sense of SPACE.

Also,I suggest getting something to eat at Peacock Cafe as the very first thing you do if you haven't already eaten, the trails here are long and you'll need alot of fuel.

For keeper feeding times and keeper talks pick up a map and all times are listed on the map. I highly recommdend elephant and hippo keeper talks as these talks are very interesting, but so are the rest of them! Have a great trip!

Thanks

Thanks everyone for the help. Tomarrow is the day! I'm getting so excited, can't wait to get through work these last couple of days. All the help is very much appreciated and will be used. I'll post some pics when I get back! Bye!

Hope you enjoy yourself. I look forward to your review/thoughts. I will most likely be visiting myself Sunday if I feel ok after the Madonna concert (which will be a zoo in it self) If not I will be there trough out the week during my vacation.

Hope you have fun!Just remember to stay hydrated well with water
