Has any one been to shorelands, I just found d them on Facebook and seems they are very cheap to get into and have a wide selection of birds. Just wondered if anyone has been in and seen it.
 
I have not been while it has been open to the public,but I have been round the part of the site that is open to the public,I would say that if you are in the area call in as its a very unique experience with some very nice species that aren't seen very often in the UK.
 
Does anyone have a species list for Shorelands as I have tried looking everywhere on the net and even used facebook to no avail wondered if anyone can help as hoping to visit but if I don't know what's there I won't know what to do

As always, zootierliste is your best bet; it's not wholly accurate, but gives a sense.

Which species would make or break the possibility of a visit? This is quite a tricky place to get to, and it's tiny. If you are making a journey to get there, I would imagine you would only do so if you really wanted to go.

I think it's a great place, by the way.
 
Just caught up with Zooterliste I looked under Diss and Dickleburgh but found it under Norfolk according to Zooterliste this is the current species within the collection I thought I would put it on here so other members could see what a nice little collection they have will be visiting shortly

Be warned that a lot of these species are not on show. In addition, many of those that are on show are free ranging – and so will not be visible during the course of the visiting day.

Yesterday we had a delivery of West African Sitatunga (Tragelaphus speckii gratus) from Chester Zoo. They will need a few days to settle into Norfolk life and then we expect them to be out in the paddock next week.
 
I just spent ages going through the photos on Shorelands' facebook page. It looks like a really lovely nicely put together place.
 
Six of the Baer's pochard ducklings from Chester have arrived at Shorelands to increase the genetic diversity in their birds. Surplus pochards will be sent out to form new pairs at Prague, Plzen, Wroclaw and Walsrode to form new breeding pairs.
 
2.2 Chacoan Mara and 1.1 slender mongoose (black morph) will be imported soon! I believe being the only ones in the uk! Info via Facebook

Fantastic news! Both will be the only ones in the UK, and the first since Jersey held both taxa in the early 1970's.

It was, of course, only a matter of time before Chacoan Mara came into the UK considering how well they are breeding on the continent :)
 
The Mongoose have arrived (photos on the parks Facebook) :)


Our two female Slender Mongoose (Galerella sanguinea) have arrived from Prague Zoo. They will be joined by a male for Plzen Zoo in early November. These are the only Slender Mongoose in the UK, they are rare in captivity and have only be maintained by zoos in the Czech Republic and Germany.
 
There are reported to be up to 40 sub-specific races of Slender Mongoose, the "black morph" is possibly the "dark brown" colour morph which is a rare mutation, probably found in certain areas of their wide range. ?

2 years ago Chacoan Mara were being offered for sale in the UK, I'm surprised no zoo snapped them up!
 
Facebook has confirmed the arrival of the two pairs of Chacoan mara at Shorelands. They arrived from Prague with the mongooses and makes Shorelands one of only 10 European institutions housing the species.
 
They now have a Jaguarundi which apparently came from Prague zoo earlier this year.
 
Shorelands wildlife Park closes next Monday until next March. So how many members have been this year? It seems a real zoo enthusiasts zoo!

Me. I've been.

It is a gem of a collection and (mostly) in an immaculate setting.

It is also a good illustration of the geographical inconsistency of the Zoo Licensing system expectations within the UK. ..
 
I've been. It's got some lovely species, and I predict it's going to be a real enthusiasts' collection. Birds are its strong point, but, increasingly, more mammals seem to be arriving.
