Hi from Tampa

Welcome to the site - I like the zoo in Tampa a lot.

As a former zoo docent myself, I always enjoy seeing and chatting with docents at other zoos.

When I was a child I used to play "stump the docent" whenever I visited zoos.

Considering the source, I am sure you stumped them all the time. Docents are for the most part retired people who just think the zoo is a fun place to do something useful during their retirement. Generally they learn the facts about specific animals or information stations to present, but very few are zoo or animals nerds with a breadth of deep knowledge. When I was at one zoo that shall remain nameless (not one in my state) the docent I spoke with insisted their white tigers were Sumatran tigers.

Welcome to ZooChat. The only negative I have experienced with docents in the past is the assumption that no zoo visitor knows much. Like the time one assumed that I was stumped by the echidnas. When I replied that I was well aware that they were not "porcupines" but egg-laying members of the monotreme family, he was literally speechless. I had to throw in the platypus as well!
