Bird Watching in Poland

Hello everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone knew when and where was best for birdwatching in Poland. I was thinking Biebrza marshes would be good but does anyone know any better. Also when is a good time to go. When do migratory birds leave before winter and what sort of species are resident? I only moved to poland a couple of weeks ago but I am into bird watching and was wondering if anyone here knows. (Also if there is somewhere with a good zoo nearby that would be nice ;) ).
 
Biebrza marshes is the best birding place in Poland (eagles terns etc.), the Bialowieza forest is also a good place, with some nice forest species (some nice woodpeckers but also Wisent).

Migratory species are leaving right now and that will continue for about 2 months ;), birding in Europe in general is best in spring.
 
I agree with Biebrza marshes and Bielowieza forest.

During autumn migration and winter, Baltic sea coast might be nice - like Mierzeja Helska peninsula near Gdansk, or estuary of river Vistula etc.

Right now, you can try common crane and greylag goose gathering places, before they migrate south.
 
Thanks, may head to bialoweza forest next easter sometime but I might try the baltic coast in a month or so. Will probably be cold though. :o
 
Hello All.

I have another question to do with bird watching in Poland, and in Europe in general. When does spring start in terms of summer visiting birds arriving?
I have not yet had a European spring so don't know when to expect to see birds arriving.

I am also wondering about common and little terns because there is a place under an hour from where I am that apparently has several thousand pairs of terns that nest there (It is an ornithological reserve with islands in the Vistula River, East of Kampinos National Park). So when is it that terns nest in Europe?

The big spring migration has already started ;), the earlier species are back again (like common chifchaff) and within the next weeks you will see swallows and terns arriving, the last summer visitors normally arrive at the end of april (common swift, honey buzzard). The terns should also arrive somewhere in April and if you visit the terns in May / June you will see a lot of them!
