West Midland Safari and Leisure Park wild horses at WMSP

just got back from west midlands and enjoyed the trip very much, however the llama's had been moved from the wallaby area and are now in the przewalski's wild horse field, i would like to know what on earth has happened bto the horses?

other things to report: had a fanatstic time watching the amazingly active aye-aye, the jumping giant rats have gone. both of the amur leopards were pacing up and down and the african wild dogs were escaping into the locked area. oh and the giraffes were locked away. :D
 
When I went to WMSP a couple of years ago I think I saw the wild horses in a paddock on the hill behind the amusements area . I think there is/was ? a walk-through goat paddock at the bottom of the hill here . A herd of yaks could also be seen on the hill .

I suppose because more and more new species are being introduced to the drive-through area some species have to make way . I remember a nice group of wapiti in the past , don't think they have been around for a while . Are there any wapiti on show in UK zoos now ?
 
there still is the walk through goat paddock, (ether all the goats atre pregnant or they're just extremely fat). behind the goat padock (if you walk up the hill) there's also a field with deer in

Flamingo Park had them until recently, and may still do so. I think they came from Chester originally.

Cricket St Thomas had some for many years too though I believe they may have moved them to a deer farm now.
 
The last time I saw Wapiti in the UK was 2006 at the Scottish Deer Centre. As far as I know they are still there.
 
Sorry to stray from the original post but I have had a look at the Scottish Deer Centre web-site which is not very informative .

I would be interested to know the 9 species of deer that they display there - can you help please zoogiraffe or robmv .

As they also have wolves I assume they are licensed as a zoo .

On my visit in may this year they had Roe Deer,Red Deer,Wapiti,Pere Davids Deer,Reeves Muntjac,Axis Deer,2 species of Sika Deer and Hog Deer.As for been licensed as a zoo i believe they are.Other species to be seen in the collection arer Wolves,Red Fox,Highland Cattle and Soay Sheep the last 3 species all arrived either this year or late 2007 from Highland Wildlife Park,there are also some birds of prey for the Falconry display these include Harris Hawk,Lanner Falcon,Kestral and a few Falcon Hybrids.
 
I think the only mainstream 'zoo' collection which may still have their Wapiti would be Flamingo Park(Yorkshire)
 
I am pretty certain Flamingo Land no longer displays wapiti - none shown for them on the Biaza 2007 Inventory or for anybody else . Could be there are a few groups of wapiti now held by deer farms which came from the zoo stock .

I remember an enormous wapiti stag in the group at Chester where the bongo now live .

His name was 'Paul'. He featured in at least one edition of Chester Zoo News. I guess the Flamingo Park group were his descendants if they came from Chester. I'm not surprised if Flamingo don't have them anymore, they wouldnt be a great attraction for everyday visitors.
