Oceanworld Manly Manly Sea Life Sanctuary news

A Stoke's sea snake found washed ashore at Manly Cove is being cared for: No Cookies | dailytelegraph.com.au

This initially sounded quite exciting but the snake really doesn't look well, the photos make it look like a carcass, complete with barnacle infestation.

I'm not sure why the article states that there is no known antivenom - as far as I was aware the sea snake antivenom produced in Australia is effective against the venom of all sea snake species due to the similar molecular structure.

Nonetheless, I hope this snake survives against all odds until I get a chance to see it. :D

MEET the cute new additions to the marine family at Manly Sea Life Sanctuary.

The aquarium is celebrating the birth of nine baby fiddler rays.

The rays, just over two months old, were born at the sanctuary.

The sanctuary’s senior marine biologist, Hope Nugent, said fiddler rays were born live from their mother instead of from an egg, like other shark species, which rays are related to.

“Fiddler rays are a species that are local to our natural environment in Sydney,” Ms Nugent said.

“They will grow to be about 1.5m long when they are fully gown and they feed on a variety of different fish, mussels, prawns ... they’re not fussy.”

The fiddler ray can be found from southern Queensland to southern NSW.

Fiddler rays have stamped their mark as one of the more popular attractions at the sanctuary in recent years.

Last year, when the world celebrated the birth of the second child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the sanctuary welcomed three baby fiddler rays on the same weekend.

Fittingly, the rays were named Charlotte, Elizabeth and Diana.
