San Diego Zoo New "Africa Rocks" complex at San Diego Zoo

I checked Zootierliste for Aye-aye at Leipzig and it didn't list them, which is as much as I know.

I've just checked ZTL and it doesn't have Leipzig down as a current holder, my bad. :o
I thought they were in the entrance to Gondwanaland but I was obviously wrong, were they there originally?

I think they were one of the species in the original plans, or are a species still intended to be there. But not yet.

The barricades are up and construction has begun. I posted a picture of the new map that shows the area that will be closed until 2017.

This is so great to hear! The website says they were hoping to start construction in late 2015! Do you think there is anyway this will push the completion date to a sooner date?

When this was first touted as an idea many years ago, they had stated they wanted it done by 2016 for their centennial. That would make a great celebration, but given the scope of the project I do not know if it is realistic.

With a project that has so many sections that are being individual fundraised for, it should be easier to phase opening of different areas. I do not think this exhibit collectively is going to be worth two years of construction and nothing new(similar to Monkey Trails). It would be nice if they phased some areas to be open with construction going on at other parts. The penguin exhibit before the Amphitheater and the part that links up with the kopje from Outback could be opened before the other parts with some coordination. I doubt it will happen though. It has been a while since big parts of the zoo have been closed this long though, since EO really.

What worries me with the concept map given by ELM, is that there is no hyena exhibit shown which was one of the exhibits I was most excited for. Hopefully they are still planned to be part of the project.

Lions were never planned to be moved (that I have heard anyway). Where did you get that idea?

It was indeed mentioned several times earlier in the thread,as ZooElephantsMan said. One mention was from a news article on the exhibit, and someone else asked a keeper and the keeper informed them that lions would indeed be part of the exhibit. I'm not sure if this still holds true, but I think it'd be fantastic,as the lion exhibit in EO isn't that great. A large lion exhibit would be great.

A larger lion exhibit would be fantastic and I am one hundred percent for it. I just doubt it will happen since it has not been part of the official zoo news releases. Given the popularity of lions, I would think they would announce that. However, I will be more than happy to be proven wrong if the rumors come true.

I heard from a zookeeper that lions are not part of this stage of the plan.
