I just read an article that was perplexing and somewhat shocking. Puxton Park, located near Somerset in the U.K., does not allow individual men or women into the establishment due to child protection laws. Apparently the rule has been in place since the park opened 7 years ago.
I am a happily married man with 3 young children, yet last summer I went on a road trip through the United States and during that time I visited many small zoological attractions alone. My wife graciously stayed home in Canada with the kids while I toured 65 zoos in 20 days and many of you read my mini-reviews on ZooChat. I would have been stunned to arrive at a facility and be told that I was not allowed to enter. What do you think of the rule? I know of many zoo nerds who, unlike myself, are not married and do not have children. What would you do if you arrived at Puxton Park without researching the possibility that you would be barred from entering?
