National Zoo and Aquarium National Zoo & Aquarium News 2014

The male hyenas are 'Zuberi' (b. 2013 to Forest) and 'Pinduli' (b. 2012 to Kigali) and are located in the former European brown bear enclosure.

6.0 Africa hunting dogs have also arrived (but are off display until the new area opens).

Does this mean the last puma is now off-display? Looks like the new hunting dog exhibit will be located up behind the exhibit that now contains the brown bears, according to the zoo's map. I had thought the hyenas would be going up there.

I would have thought that these two species were for the new Savannah extension to the park.

I was there today and yes the puma was off-display. Also off-display were the cheetahs (there was a Bengal tiger in their exhibit) and servals (if they're still there; but either way their enclosure was occupied by a pair of barking owls).

On the website it still mentions 1.1 servals so they are likely still there. Maybe the cheetahs and serval are moving to the new African area (I don't know TBH)?

I assume so. I forgot to mention that a single giraffe was the only ungulate on display, so it seems like quite a lot might be off-display at the moment. I'm sure they used to have ruffed lemurs too, but only ring-tails were on display (in the old ruffed lemur enclosure, with capuchins in the old ring-tail one).

This was the first time I saw the refurbished aquarium/reptile house, and it wasn't massively different from what I remembered, really. The old tunnel-place that used to have sun bears years ago seems to have been retired. Otherwise the zoo was looking pretty good. The squirrel monkeys made an excellent exhibit, and the hyenas were exciting to see. The bears looked much, much better in the old puma exhibit (although they look so much smaller in such a large space!).

Four alpacas have arrived and are on display in front of the giraffe lodge (as seen in the photos above).
