Was that small zoo Skanes Djurpark, a small zoo in central Scania, near Hoor, which focuses on Nordic animals.

Just looked this place up to see if it was still open and found that not only is it still there, it's expanded its exotic stocklist (Meerkats! Yay!) and (which I had no idea of when I was last there) it has a disused bear pit in the grounds. Will have to go back for another look sometime.

Nope, it didn't really focus on Nordic animals (the only animals I remember from there were peafowl, pheasans parrots and monkeys), and Skånes Djurpark is not really small (at least in area) as far as I know. It was more of a amusement park/big playground with some animals here and there.

The friend I was travelling with had previously done the four 'north-west' Czech zoos, so we targeted the trip to areas where we both had zoos to gain. I do indeed intend another Czech trip in a year or two - probably repeating Prague, Plzen and Dvur Kralove alongside Usti, Decin, Chomutov, Liberec and (as you correctly surmise!) Dresden.


EDIT: I will be doing Leipzig with the Berlins and probably Halle at the time of the 2011 Zoo Collectors' Meeting, which Leipzig is hosting. :)

In bird-watching circles 8,000 species is the "gold standard" (and only a few have ever got there)..maybe for zoos it should be a thousand collections (and only two people have done that figure thus far).However as most zoochatters are young, and logistically the globe has shrunk (cue "carbon footprint"), it is more feasible than it has ever been...best of luck!
 
I know, that's why I put them in italics haha. In the Manyeleti Game Reserve, they did have a kind of 'pet' Warthog though hahaha.
