Staten Island Zoo Staten Island Zoo news

I finally am back after breaking my leg but some more news:
Sculta tortoises live with sheep
carousel open
Galapagos tortoises in children zoo
Grey crowned crane, palmnut vulture, and a species of bustard on exhibit
ring tailed lemurs outside
slide in otter exhibit
cassowary female is growing fast
2 species of cobra offspring
ostrich eggs

The Gemsbok was added to the zoo with the Ostriches being moved to this enclosure. The former Ostrich enclosure had a sign about a new exhibit being planed their. This zoo has had amazing additions in the past 2 years seems as it keeps getting better!

Uummmm, those are not Gemsbok. Those are Scimitar-Horned Oryx.

Why'd you think they were Gemsbok? Did the signage say so?

Thank you for the correction and sorry for the mistake. No sign was listed yet as the exhibit is not officially opened.

I know this is a lot to ask, but is anyone able to/ willing to list the mammal species for this zoo? There is little to no information about this place online.

I agree. Off the top of my head I know Serval, Amur Leopard, Klipspringer, Red Fox, and now Scimitar-Horned Oryx but besides that I have no idea. Maybe Red Panda, too. I know they at least used to keep Eurasian Lynx, spider monkey (Geoffroy's??), and dik-dik (Gunther's??) until recently but I think those have gone now unfortunately.

The Red Panda is no longer with them. Some of the ones I saw on a current visit were Prehensile porcupine, Meercats,Howler monkeys,tamandua,Bat-eared fox,Fenec fox,Artic Fox,Patagonian Cavies, Clydesdale's,Fossa, binturong, several barn yard animals,Ring tailed lemurs and another type of lemur the type escapes me also I cannot remember several other species of small monkeys.

So the lynx, spider monkey, and dik-dik are really gone then?

The spider monkeys are still there i believe 3 or 4. I have not scene the dik-dik on several visits. The Lynx is also not on display but I believe perhaps it is off-stage.

The blue tree moniter exhibit now holds sail fin dragons and there seems to be only one anaconda on exhibit.
