Tinamous in captivity

None in Australasia of course, and in fact the only place I've seen them is Leipzig, surprisingly didn't see any at the Singapore or San Diego Zoos.

Only place I have seen one is Magdeburg - sadly the Leipzig animal died not long after you saw it zooboy.

Oh - that's no good. I was so excited to see the tinimou, which I hadn't expected to see at all. I spent a good time watching, photographing and even filming it, longer than I spent at any other exhibit in that zoo (except possibly the Baikal Seal). It wasn't in the best enclosure though, seemed very small for such a bird.

Are tinimou's particularly difficult to keep in captivity? Why are there so few?

Toronto Zoo has Crested Tinamou.

Too bad there is no Zootierliste for the Americas.

I believe Elegant Crested Tinamou is the most common in captivity over here and it's the only one I've seen. I do know there are quite a few Little Tinamou around as well though I've yet to see them having missed them at Philadelphia.

Dallas World Aquarium - great tinamou, elegant crested tinamou, small-billed tinamou
Dallas Zoo - Andean Tinamou

Not aware of other species in the U.S.

Europe there are a couple of species:

Tatapau, Brown, Solitary, Elegent-crested, Red-winged...

Did some research in the Int. Zoo Year Books Vol. 22 to vol. 30 ( period 1980 - 1989 ) and the following species were bred in zoos world-wide during this period :
Solitary
Brown
Undulated
Thicknet
Small-billed
Tataupa
Red-winged
Brushland
Elegant crested
Spotted nothura
Chilean
Grey
Varigated
Yellow-legged

I think DWA has the Little Tinamou (Crypturellus soui), rather than the Small-billed.
The species exhibited are the little and elegant crested, however I have no idea what they have off exhibit. The aquarium has a lot of rare birds off exhibit and I wouldn't be surprised if there are some tinamous back there.
