Zoos Poor Enclosure

Wikipedia isn't always right. And in this case, it definitely isn't.

Yeah, I don't get why SA Zoo ends up on so many "worst" lists. It's far from the best zoo I've been to, but it really doesn't belong on a "worst zoos in the world/country" list. Much of the criticism is directed toward their elephant situation, and they used to have a polar bear that people weren't too happy about. But I heard they improved a lot in the past few years, before I moved to the area and started visiting. I'm not really happy about the elephant situation, but I understand that it's complicated, and most of the exhibits seem fine, outside of a couple small primate ones that could stand to be upgraded. (though even those aren't horrible, just a bit bare)

Yeah I've heard it's more or less the elephant situation that stinks about San Antonio. But that one bad situation doesn't mean the zoo should be considered a bad zoo! Apart from that, I've heard it's a pretty nice zoo and I certainly want to visit one day.

Pretty much all of the "this zoo sucks!" pieces I've read on SA Zoo are about the elephant. That's pretty much it. Like you say, it's not really enough to warrant a "bad zoo" label. Don't really get how it's enough to put it together with zoos where animals starve and live in cramped, bare enclosures.

Yeah, I agree San Antonio shouldn't be on the list

regarding penguins and Edinburgh, I just did a rudimentary search (a few seconds worth), and interestingly enough the Wikipedia article on the zoo got their info from the zoo's own dodgy history on its website, which says this:

"We are probably best known throughout the world for our penguins. The association with these amazing birds began in January 1913, with the arrival of three king penguins from the Christian Salvesen whaling expedition which docked in Leith. We subsequently had the first successful hatching of a king penguin chick in 1919. These were the first penguins ever to be seen anywhere outside of the South Atlantic, and Edinburgh Zoo has pioneered the care and science of penguins ever since."

I didn't knew that

No offense, but seems like you don't know anything about zoos but still seem to have an opinion about them. Which makes discussing it quite pointless.
You should probably get some experiences of your own instead of relying on the information and opinions of Wikipedia and ''some people''.

Go out and visit a couple of zoos so you'll have something to analyze and compare.

The worst exhibits ive seen are probably Madrids bear and baboon exhibits concrete with empty concrete moats more than just an eye sore
