Berlin Zoo Zoo Berlin News 2015

Certainly a lot less useful - and with far less indication of where given taxa can be found - than the previous map...... and of course this map is being produced as a replacement for the now-withdrawn zoo guide.

The Tierpark one is worse.

When I contemplate the new director at the Berlin zoos, I can almost empathise with #Jane Doe's rantings about those who have followed Molly Badham at Twycross.....

It was always going to be difficult to create a useful map for these zoos - they have so much crammed in and so many pathways. While they now lack the actual enclosures (as most zoo maps do), and don't have many species shown, they are relatively easy to follow and much nicer to look at than the old maps, which I found incredibly confusing.

The loss of the guide book is, of course, appalling.

@Zooboy28

The loss of the guidebook ( of both parks) isn't decided yet-so theer is a light at the end of the tunnel. But whats amazing is-the Berlin zoo guidebook, published in 2013,was already sold out last year, altough a bird is on the cover. All Zoos(except birdparks, of course) had problems in the past to sell their guidebook with a bird on the cover. But if you read the Annual report,Berlin has sold less guidebooks every year, thats why they changed the publishing modus from everyyear to the two years rhythem.

Yeas, both new maps are really awul, but is has a reason-the visitors. Most people nowadays are unable to read a map,not only zoo maps. The more"complicate"is is,the more the people have problems to find their way around in the zoo.I don't know, if this is the case outside of germany, but german zoos are now making their maps as easy as possible.

@Bib Fortuna, Burgers Zoo had the same problem with their maps, many people got lost, so they made a new map and placed new signs through the whole zoo, even though the old map was still quite clear (which cannot be said from the TP Berlin zoo map).

Does anyone know the 'family tree' of this baby Orangutan- details of its parents & grandparents etc?

Orang Utan baby Rieke has been adopted by a German yellow press paper = they have the exclusive rights to the marketing and they use it to full extent = you can't walk the streets without a baby Orang Utan smiling at your face in every street = you can't turn on the news without looking at Baby Rieke being fed or having hiccup. She has a twitter account and a facbook page, too.
I don't mind.

They just try to repeat the Knut phenomenon in orange.
Silly, because the baby will go in a few weeks to Monkey World.

 what does this mean?

Sorry, my mistake-the term"nerve"does not exitsts in the english language, in german it is"nerven", and that means , this time correct-Rieke sucks.

Dustbunnys post give the explantion, why...I miss the time, when some germna zoos had the politcis not to do ANY handraisig-including apes, and what happend ? After a few births, ALL of the female apes accepted their young..Please don't ask, which zoos have done this.Nowadays, when zoos are more open to the public, they can't do that...in our present Bambi World.:(

ah, I see. I understand now.

I think in English you could phrase it "Rieke is starting to get on my nerves." But that is a lot more long-winded than the German version.

The former barbary sheep enclosure which has been last home to caucasian tur, now holds the old breeding pair of Sichuan takin from Tierpark Berlin. There is still a breeding group of this species in the Tierpark.
