New year, New thread for Columbus Zoo!

In support for Ohio State's recent football game the zoo has posted multiple pictures on their twitter account of their animals and keepers doing the OHIO signs and I noticed one of the tigers was in the old lion enclosure. Does anyone know who it is or if their planning on keeping them there? I would think its one of the twin boys, Demitri or Whiz considering they are older now.

I'm so happy. Toni is Colo's daughter, right?

Yes, Toni is Colo's third and only living offspring and the second oldest gorilla at the zoo at 44 yrs old. I guess that makes Colo Kamina's Adoptive Grandma. :)

If this works out it looks like Kamina will be reared as almost a twin, as according to Columbus facebook, Toni is already surrogating a year-old baby.

A new tiger will be coming to the zoo but we'll be saying goodbye to a favorite of mine in return.

"A male tiger from a zoo in Czechoslovakia is soon coming to live breed at the Columbus Zoo. To make room for the Czechoslovakian tiger, a Columbus Zoo tiger has been moved to Rolling Hills Zoo in Kansas. The Columbus tiger, a male named Foli, fathered several cubs at Columbus.

“Foli did his job very well, and we don’t need more Foli genes in the North American tiger population,” Warmolts said. The Czechoslovakian tiger’s genetic makeup is new to North America and will increase the species’ diversity, he said. Foli has been retired from breeding."

This means that Irisa, Mara, and any of the four female cubs could be bred with this new male.

Must be a very old tiger... or maybe someone should point out to "The Columbus Dispatch" that Czechoslovakia hasn't existed for over 20 years...

I know right? Theres some comments on the article pointing it out, but how could you make that mistake?

A female black-and-white colobus was born on February 22nd. She has been named Bernadette.

Does anyone know what the new barn and fencing in the area at the top of the hill near pronghorn, bison and prairie dogs is for? I believe this area once had a bird show and more recently had a dinosaur dig.

It had camel rides last time I was there.

The zoo's last timber wolf, a female name Tehya, was euthanized today at the age of 17.
