Heavy snow-fall was to much for one of the aviaries at Beekse Bergen yesterday, the netting broke and 8 spoonbills and 2 hamerheads escaped.

At the moment Beekse Bergen has 3 African elephants but they plan to build a much larger stable and in March 2015 4 new African elephants from Wuppertal will come to Hilvarenbeek.
Female Punda and her 3 offsprings Bongi (F), Pina Nessie (F) and Shauwu will enlarge the Beekse Bergen herd and hopefully help to get the herd breeding :).

thats good news, because Punda and her offspring are currently kept separat from the rest of the herd. below a clip from youtube wich was filmd in 2012 in wich Sabi can be seen attacking Punda's eldest daugther Bongi

In fact only 3 spoonbills and the 2 hamerheads escaped contrary to these news reports. On top, all birds are on site and staff from SBB are on call to try and capture them.

Rothschild giraffe female Amber gave birth to a female-calf called Noah. Beekse Berrgen now has a group of 13 Rothschild giraffes :).

As far as I'm informed the Red-bellied lemurs will share an island with the Red Ruffed lemurs. Also Belted Ruffed lemurs are planned for the same island.

About where the Red-bellied lemurs orginate from, I'm not sure but I guess they came from the now closed Dierenpark Wissel - Epe.

two young recently arrived cheetahs escaped from their enclosure on Sunday afternoon. the incident occured when a parkranger jeep crossed a remote controlled gate that leeds from the cheetah enclosure in to the rhino paddock. According to an eyewitness the jeep with trailer drove through the gate, but the driver didn't drive far enough through the gate for it to close on time. The two youngsters ran past the jeep in to the rhino paddock, after 1.5 hours the keepers succeeded in chasing them back in their own enclosure.

Today an almost complete sun-eclips could be seen above Western Europe ( at least at places where no clouds disturbed the sight - like at the place I was :( ) and at the moment of the eclips a camel was born at Beekse Bergen. Its a female and she is called Kusuf which means "eclips" in Arabic.
