As with the north american thread, this is for south america, put the name of the specie and the zoo it is found in.
to start...

Bald Uakari - Huachipa Zoo
Giant armadillo - Bioparque los Ocarros
Gorilla - Belo Horizonte Zoo
Orangutan - Sao Paulo Zoo
Rio tapajos Saki - Belo Horizonte Zoo

Horned scremer - Guayaquil Zoo

Uakaris can also be found elsewhere, including a number of rescued animals like at Pilpintuwasi (Peru). I've seen horned screamers at Parque las Leyendas in Lima. I'm not sure about the current status of giant armadillos in captivity (e.g. in Argentina), but you may be right about that one. :)
 
I had heard about rescued uakaries, but i was meaning real ZOOS, that people can visit, because if it was for rescue centers, the list would be really extensive

Fair enough, and South American rescue centres often host a wealth of rare wildlife, but Pilpintuwasi butterfly farm and Amazon animal orphanage is a collection of captive wild animals which is open to the public. I'd therefore consider it some sort of zoo.
 
Lear´s macaw at Riozoo also known as zoologico de Rio de Janiero. Until recently the pair on exhibit were the only ones on display in the world, but as devilfish has shown there are now some on display at Loro Parque,Islas Canarias. Devilfish posted his photos on the Loro parque gallery, I posted a photo of the riozoo pair. Also, many visitors think the lear´s macaws at Riozoo are the macaws which are the subject of the animated movie RIO, which were actually supposed to be spix´s macaws. Sao paulo zoo has both Lear´s macaws and Spix´s macaws but they are not on exhibit.

Lear's have been on show at Loro Parque since at least 2010; I saw them in November that year: http://www.zoochat.com/671/lears-macaws-loro-parque-08-11-a-188215/
 
spix macaws arent found in Sao Paulo anymore, they were sent to loro parque
 
I had understand that it was just the other way, Loro Parques Spix macaws are ( or will be soon ) send to South America ??

there's an orangutan in Chile (http://www.zoochat.com/234/first-orangutan-chile-buin-zoo-310252/) and -- if I understand the Google translation correctly -- also in Argentina [and Brazil and Mexico].
 
Yes, devilfish is right there are orangutans at Riozoo, also Buenos Aires zoo has orangutans as well. I am not certain if the pygmy hippos at Buenos Aires zoos are the only ones in South America. Oh, we all about forgot the photos that oceanboy placed in the argentina gallery of the elephant seal at Mundo Marino at Punta del Este. Certainly the only elephant seal in an animal collection in all of america.
Mexico is part of latin america, not south america, but if admitted to the thread, of course i would add the volcano rabbits or teporingos at Chapultepec and Los Coyotes zoos here in mexico city. And the Yucatan brown brockets at Xcaret.
 
This is what i am aware of for animals found in only one south american zoo

There is one breeding center in Chile that has Patagonian huemul (Hippocamelus bisulcus)

There is one zoo in Peru that has Marine otters (Lontra felina), but i do not know if it is the only one

There is one zoo in Columbia that has Merida brockets (Mazama bricenii)

There is another zoo in Columbia that has Mountain tapirs (Tapirus pinchaque)

and here is a non south american species found in only one south american zoo

The only European bison outside of europe in a public collection is at the Sao Paulo Zoo, I found that out on ISIS
 
yes, sao paulo zoo has a herd of wisents and so does the safari park next door, (both under the same administration).
Buenos aires zoo has a pair of snow leopards, i also saw an ageing snow leopard at sao paulo, but that animal may have died by now.
Perhaps ocean boy could inform us if mundo marino still has an orca ?
 
I also heard that there are some marine otters in Chile, im not sure but maybe in the Buin Marino.
The mountain tapirs are only found in the Cali Zoo, as ungulate nerd said, but i am not sure of the Merida Brocket, because that animal was in Bogota for a long time, I am not sure if it still lives.
The giant armadillo is found in "Bioparque Los Ocarros" in Colombia, not sure if any in Brasil
The "Nasuella olivacea" is shown in the "bioparque la reserva", being the only captive group
Cali also shows some Cauca guan "Penelope perspicax", which were the only ones in captivity for a long time, but i am not sure if other Colombian Zoos have more.
 
Another animal that would be good to mention is the Royal antelope (Neotragus pygmaeus), at one time the Sao Paulo Zoo had them, and most likely they were the only Latin American zoo to have them.

Also about the Merida brocket (Mazama bricenii), I never realized that it may not be around any longer, thanks for confirming that toto98. Giant eland is very lucky to have seen that species when he did!
 
Brazilia zoo had a pair of golden white tassel eared marmosets, a species i had never seen. They may be also at brazilian primate centers, but perhaps not on exhibit.
 
Apparently Cali Zoo is the only zoo hosting Ornate Titi Monkey (Callicebus ornatus) in the world...This being a Colombian endemic and Vulnerable to extinction.
 
Does anyone know where I can find some professional publications about behaviour of maned wolves? I need them to my work at University. Thanks for every help. Greetings from Poland ;-)

Yes, you should contact Dr Adriana Consorte Mccrea who is an expert on the behavioural ecology of this species.

In terms of books there are two I strongly recommend : "Ecology and conservation of the maned wolf : Multidisciplinary perspectives" - Adriana Consorte Mccrea (In English) and "Histórias de um lobo"- Rogério Cunha de Paula ( The book is bilingual with English and Portuguese text).
